GREAT NOSTALGIA

I read all the reviews but I went to this show with no expectations, because a review is only one persons opinion. But I was pleasantly surprised. This show was great. For anybody who lived through the sixties this play will bring back many pleasant memories of the days when music was really music. The acting was great, the music better and hats off to the costume person. I would recommend this show to anybody who wants to spend two hours remembering the good old days of music.

A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE

Great. Memorable. Fun. We are going back this week to see it again! Someone must have an ax to grind, the music was fantastic, the costumes beautiful, audience participation arousing. Too bad there are those who are putting this down. A good success story along with flashbacks of days gone by. I would definitely recommend seeing this play. Fun, pleasant way to spend an evening or afternoon. On many levels actually touching.

OPPOSING VIEW

This show has everything you would want in a musical:great songs, gorgeous costumes and a REAL story about people who really lived. The Shirelles were one of the greatest girl groups of all times. However, this is not told through their eyes but that of their mentor,Florence,a housewife from Passaic, NJ. It shows the racial overtones of the times, the musical evolution going on and the attitude towards working women. The costumes are gorgeous.Remember the gowns and dresses that Dionne Warwick, the Supremes etc. wore? The flowery hats and cape coat made me laugh as I remember owning exactly that style. The costume designer captured that era.I loved the show and so did the audience evidenced by the 2 curtain calls, standing ovation and the "Shout" sing-along.Thank you to the producers for providing a "certain generation" a look back and also introducing a younger audience to that sound. By the way,I was with a group of 40 that included college students. The kids gave it a rousing thumbs up!

WORTH THE TRIP

The negative review here is unfair; this little show has a lot to offer, and Broadway has room for all types of stories. This show chronicles the beginning history of the girl groups, of which the Shirelles were the leaders. It also tells the story of the woman, Florence Greenberg, a Jewish housewife, who put them on the map. I saw the Los Angeles Production (twice) at a small theater and thought then that it could transfer to Broadway not only because of the music, but also the message: that good music fueled by good and talented people full of passion, is timeless.
