Evelyn La Quiaf directs this new production of Bellin's blazing tragedy, known for its demanding leading role and unforgettable power. Written in the verismo (realism) style, it tells the story of a Priestess torn between her duty to her religion and the secret love of her enemy. Whichever she chooses, the consequences will be all-consuming, spelling disaster for all whom she touches.
When her people are threatened by the invasion of the Roman army, the high Priestess of the Druids Norma must make a choice - does she lead her people or confess her affair Pollione, a Roman soldier with whom she sired children? War and the anger of the gods is invoked in this highly emotive drama that pits passion and betrayal against the bitter-sweet taste of revenge.
