The New York premiere!
Hurricane Sandy forms the basis of this new play by Rinne Groff of The Ruby Sunrise and Saved, which tells of hope and determination after catastophe. Set around two central characters, a disillusioned do-gooder who hopes to bring Coney Island back to its former glory; and a European film-maker who sees the aftermath as a personal opportunity to make a piece of art. Looking back to the 1911 Dreamland fire, our two characters seemingly have the same ideas about resurrecting the area - until personal motives are revealed that shatter her illusions.
What is it about?
Drawn into Jaap's haughty vision for a new and improved Dreamleand art project, Kate gets carried away with her dreams and hopes, until she is forced to confront the truth about Jaap's real intentions. The truth about his motives and who he really is acts as a catelyst for her to break out of her ennui and reclaim her life.
First premiering at Berkeley Rep Theatre in 2015, this powerful story of rebirth from the ashes of disaster spans across different eras of time, and also explores the rebirth of the self. An ode to the enduring spirit of Coney Island, this New York premiere is a must-see in 2018!
