The Family-Friendly Coming Of Age Musical
Celebrated actress Rosemary Loar, star of Broadway smash hits Sunset Boulevard opposite Glenn Close and Chess, turns her considerable talents to writing in the exciting new Off-Broadway production of Spoolie Girl, set for a strictly limited week-long run at the Actor's Temple Theater this fall. Inspired by Loar's deep love of nature, as well as a reaction to modern society's over reliance on materialist goals, the captivating and highly imaginative coming-of-age story features an all-female cast and an original score written by the playwright herself.
Weaving together themes of family, environmental awareness and social responsibility with a sense of fun, this family-friendly musical follows the titular Spoolie Girl, a teenage orphan from Kenya who's just landed in her new and slightly overwhelming home of New York City. The story's heroine has a magical gift to help her through her recent loss - the spoolie curlers she ties into her hair allow her to read people's thoughts and interpret them as songs! With a touch of whimsy and a colorful cast of zany characters, she learns that family and community can be found in even the concrete jungle.
