Theatre's next generation create plays from scratch
The 24 Hour Plays concept is simple but oh so intriguing: Six playwrights, six directors, twenty four actors, and a host of special musical guests are given a day to create six plays from scratch, rehearse them, and then perform them in front of an audience. It's a unique pressure-cooker experiment that puts all the artists' talents to the test, and the resulting plays often range from transcendent to...interesting.
The 24 Hour Plays - Nationals reproduces the formula, but instead of established performers and creatives, the minds behind the new plays are some of the most promising young talents in the business. It's a program that in the past has showcased future Grace and Frankie writer Laura Jacqmin and Grey's Anatomy star Brandon Scott.
