After rumors circulated last week, it has now been confirmed that Oscar, Tony, and Emmy nominee Ed Harris will be joining the cast of To Kill A Mockingbird on Broadway as Atticus Finch! Harris will take over from current star, and role originator,  Jeff Daniels from November 5.

Daniels, who was nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play at this year's Tony Awards, will depart the production on November 3.

Ed Harris garnered a Tony Award nomination for his turn in Precious Sons on Broadway with his other stage credits including Taking Sides, Good For Otto, Buried Child, The Jacksonian, Wrecks, Trumbo, Simpatico and Fool for Love. Harris has also garnered four Oscar nominations, and three Emmy nominations for his extensive screen work.

To Kill A Mockingbird was nominated for nine 2019 Tony Awards including the nomination for Best Direction of a Play for Bartlett Sher.

What is To Kill A Mockingbird About?

Told through the eyes of 13-year-old Scout, Mockingbird is set in the pre-civil rights era Deep South of the 1930s. When local black man Tom Robinson is accused of raping a white girl, Scout's lawyer father Atticus Finch takes on the case, determined to try and give Tom a fair trial. With his decision to defend Tom, Atticus finds himself ostracised from the community, and the lives of his family put into danger. As the trial approaches, Atticus must choose whether to buckle under the mounting pressure or to stand his ground and fight for what is right.

To Kill A Mockingbird is now playing at the Shubert Theatre through to February 23, 2020
