The critically acclaimed revival of Lerner and Loewe's classic musical, My Fair Lady, has announced that it will be taking its final bow at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre on July 7. Opening in April 2018, My Fair Lady was nominated for ten Tony awards last year and won the Tony for Best Costume Design.
The musical currently stars Laura Benanti as Eliza Doolittle, Harry Hadden-Paton as Henry Higgins, Alexander Gemignani as Alfred P. Doolittle and Rosemary Harris as Mrs. Higgins.
At the time of closing My Fair Lady will have played a total of 548 performances, with a national tour kicking off in December at the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse. It is also rumored that My Fair Lady will be heading to London shores in due course, although official dates, venue, and cast are yet to be confirmed.
Our Broadway reviewer said that My Fair Lady was "Lovely, perfect, magnetic" continuing with "the humor is sharp and expresses the iconic British banter that still exists today, bitingly funny with a deadpan delivery. Set against the breath-taking set design by Michael Yeargan". Read Nicola's Full Review Here
What is My Fair Lady about?
For Professor Henry Higgins, a person's voice is of the utmost importance. A student of phonetics, he holds the opinion that with the right accent and tone of speech, anything is achievable. To prove his point, he wagers a friend that he can teach cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle to speak 'properly', and then present her as an upper-class lady at a high society ball. So the pair's lessons begin, but little does Henry Higgins know, that their time together will change him just as much as it does her!
My Fair Lady is currently playing at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre through to July 7.
