Why See Satchmo at the Waldorf?

Satchmo at the Waldorf is an uplifting play about the career and life of one of Jazz's foremost performers, 'Satchmo', 'Pops', or as he more commonly known as, Louis Armstrong.

Set in New York City in the early 1970s at the luxurious Waldorf Astoria Hotel, the play takes place backstage as the legendary singer unwinds after one of his final concerts and recounts the trials and triumphs of his extraordinary career. The play is unique and highly intimate look into the life of this talented artist who established his career during one of the USA's most turbulent era's of social change.

Satchmo at the Waldorf stars John Douglas Thompson in the lead role as Louis Armstrong and is directed by Gordon Edelstein.
