As with "Yip/Jump Music", "Hi, How Are You" was a reissue of a cassette recording Daniel Johnston made in 1983, and as such it reflects the most fertile period of his early development.
Hailing from Sacramento, the lo-fi American singer-songwriter, musician, and visual artist has made a strong name for himself in the alternative and folk scenes. A prolific live performer, Johnston has performed his eclectic works to audiences worldwide; this fall tour marks his retirement from the live music scene, although it is unclear whether he plans to continue recording. A collaborator with Simpsons' creator Matt Groening, he performed at the artist's All Tomorrow's Parties festival in the UK.
Johnston's final tour will arrive in , , and see Johnston perform with a different band in each city on the engagement, demonstrating their influence on his music. New Orleans will feature The Preservation All-Stars;The Districts and Modern Baseball in Philadelphia; Jeff Tweedy in Chicago, and Built to Spill in Seattle and Vancouve, respectively.
