A Classic Reborn

One of the all time great musicals returns to Broadway in 2016 in brand new version. Last staged on the Great White Way in 1985, Singin' in the Rain is based on the iconic Gene Kelly movie and is a charming trip through the Hollywood golden era of the 1920s. Imbued with wonder, romance and a touch of old movie magic, this show's terrific score includes the title track, 'Make em' laugh' and 'Moses Supposes'.

Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who scored a recent Broadway success with Finding Neverland, is the mastermind behind this Paris transfer, which is directed by Robert Carsen and choreographed by Stephen Mear. Emmy winner and star of Radio City's New York Spring Spectacular Derek Hough stars.

What To Expect

Following on from the monster success of An American in Paris, Singin' in the Rain is the second Broadway transfer to arrive from the Theatre du Chatalet in Paris. Hewing closely to the movie, this adaptation cannily stages a lot of the action in a stylish monochrome color scheme, reflecting the black and white film of the period. Among the many stand out sequences are the splash-in-the-puddles performance of the title track (replete with stunning on stage rainstorm) and the bravo finale of bright yellow macs and twirling umbrellas.

What is Singin' in the Rain About?

When an ailing movie studio reluctantly makes a foray into the new "talky" films, they face one problem; their beautiful but spoiled leading lady Lina Lamont has a voice which isn't too pleasing to the ear. If her squeaking tones are exposed on film, then they are all finished in the movie business!

A solution to this problem present itself in the form of Kathy, a jobbing actress and leading man Don's love interest, who just so happens to have the voice of a songbird. Kathy is chosen to dub over Lina's lines, a move which infuriates the leading lady and threatens to derail the whole project. Can Don and Kathy's love weather the storm, and will the movie end up on the cutting room floor?
