Orphans

Closed May 19, 2013

The chemistry of this introductory salvo comes from crude but effective elements: an overamplified run of screaming notes from an electric guitar; a ravaged, abandoned-looking room shrouded in sinister lighting.

Ben Brantley, The New York Times

Why See Orphans?

Two orphaned brothers live in their decrepit North Philadelphia row house. They survive by petty thievery and a steady diet of tuna fish and daytime television until the violent older brother (Foster) decides to kidnap Harold (Baldwin), a notorious Chicago gangster.

The two brothers - one a predatory and domineering thief, the other an innocent man-child (Sturridge) - have raised themselves without the benefit of parents. But after a short time the wily Harold turns the tables on them becoming their father figure and the force that will forever change their lives.

"30 Rock" star and Tony Award nominee Alec Baldwin will return to Broadway in spring 2013 in the Broadway bow of Lyle Kessler's taut three-hander. The play has been nominated for two 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Play.
