Thirty years after its debut, John Patrick Shanley's 'A Dreamer Examines His Pillow' is set to be revived officially for the first time at New York City's The Flea Theatre. Cited as having been impulsively formed to create 'a joyful hell in a small space', the downtown theatre is the perfect space for the play's dreamlike exploration of the small intimacies and tragedies between two lovers.
New York native Shanley defied a rough childhood to become a hugely successful writer in all spheres. The playwright, screenwriter and stage and film director has won Pulitzer Prize and an Oscar for the widely lauded 'Doubt: A Parable'. Described as a comedy of anguish, 'A Dreamer Examines His Pillow' is a richly poetic and strikingly surreal study of a dysfunctional relationship between two drifters.
