Wishful Drinking at Broadway's Studio 54 (254 West 54th Street) celebrated its official opening on Sunday, October 4th, 2009.
Carrie Fisher checked in with The Huffington Post for a little Q & A.
In this excerpt the actress discusses bringing her story to the stage:
How difficult was it to separate yourself from your life in order to tell this story both as a writer and performer?
Not difficult at all. I read a book that was about writers who feel like they have part of their person who is the writer and another part of their person that sort of has to take care of the writer. There's always someone who's in a separate watchful place, who doesn't participate in the show, just watches the rest of it go on. That's the part of the person who takes care of Carrie Fisher so she can do the show. I always felt there was a part of me a little detached from it. It's a way of staying safe when you're not so safe. It's good if you have something that's just to the left of things, not being so overwhelmed by them.

Wishful Drinking premiered in November 2006 at the Geffen Playhouse and enjoyed an extended engagement there through January 2007. Following that premiere, the show has completed successful runs at a number of not-for-profit theatre organizations around the country including Berkeley Repertory Theatre (February 2008), Arena Stage (September 2008),Huntington Theatre Company (October 2008) and Seattle Repertory Theatre (April 2009).Roundabout Theatre Company is pleased to welcome Carrie Fisher to Studio 54 in the fall.
