Chisa Hutchinson's new play about identity
Chisa Hutchinson's play Somebody's Daughter makes its world premiere this May at Off-Broadway's Second Stage Theater, helmed by May Adrales. Following the poignant tale of an emotionally neglected 15 year-old Asian American girl, whose mother wishes that she was a boy, she finds solace in her school guidance counselor, who knows all too well about not fitting her family's expectations. A play that follows three generations of women, and their decisions to either break the rules, or decide their own destinies.
The play received its first reading in March, at The University of Delaware's Resident Ensemble Players (REP). Hutchinson, a professor at the same university has won multiple awards for her work including the GLAAD Media Award, a Lilly Award (honoring women in theatre), a New York Innovative Theatre Award, and the Lanford Wilson Award.
