Revamped after a sell out run in London with Doctor Who star Matt Smith, American Psycho is coming back to it's heartland, this time with an all-American cast! And that's not all, the stylish synth-pop scored murderous musical will undergo a few new changes, with new songs, a little more horrifying and suspenseful and ... psycho.
Based on Brett Easton Ellis' 1991 novel and the film of the same name, American Psycho's transformation to ironic musical spectacular was the idea of the playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. A strange concept for a musical you might think, a yuppie who's life is built on shallow consumerism and violent, diabolical acts, but American Psycho is a slick, funny and clever show that illustrates the fascination with capitalism and how it can devalue the few real, free things in life.
On the outside, Patrick Bateman looks like he has it all; money, designer clothes, a great job and a beautiful girlfriend. But the handsome young Wall Street yuppie feels numb to everything, emotion a language he can't understand.
As such, he feels no remorse when committing murder in a variety of gruesome ways. But it becomes increasingly obviously that even his serial killing antics might not help him reclaim reality...
