Two legends of jazz come together to debut new arrangements of classics
Five years after opening the 2008-09 Jazz at Lincoln Center Season, consummate pianist and NEA Jazz Master Ahmad Jamal reprises his role for 2013-14.
Since his time as a leading architect of Miles Davis' iconic 1950s quintet, Jamal has changed the vocabulary of the piano trio through his use of real-time cues, bass vamps, and intoxicating
Jamal brings his quartet, comprising JLCO alumni Reginald Veal (bass) and Herlin Riley (drums), along with Manolo Badrena (percussion), into the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
Members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will debut new arrangements of
songs from Jamal's canon, and the two bands will come together to perform them, employing Jamal's innovative conception.
Closing night: 1 January 1900
