A true master of South African drama stages the world premier of his latest work.
Prolific South African playwright and political activist Athol Fugard is best known for his protest plays that spoke out against the injustices of Apartheid and for the Academy Award-winning film Tsotsi, adapted from his novel of the same name. The Tony Award-winner's latest work, The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek centers on the life of South African Outsider Artist Nukain Mabusa.
Set in the province of Mpumalanga in South Africa in the 1980's, the play tells of the struggles of the self-taught black artist who transformed the environment of his home into a breathtaking garden of painted stones. As he comes to paint his final rock, Mabusa must face his artistic legacy and African heritage amidst the growing tensions of the last years of Apartheid.
