A new ballet exploring the dark side of the Jazz AgeBuy Tickets
New York City Center presents the American premiere of the new ballet from renowned choreographer Boris Eifman. Adapted from the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the story centers on Dick Diver, a charming, affluent socialite who is plunged into an existential crisis by the mental illness affecting his wife. Eifman has characterised the work as a "dazzling chronicle of a human dying spiritually". It will be set to a jazz score, featuring Gershwin and Schoenberg.
The young Eifman founded his own ballet company in 1977, with the goal of solely performing his own work. It has become famous for its innovative and unabashedly radical approach to the art form, often drawing inspiration from classical literature and theatre - past ballets have included The Seagull, Twelfth Night and Anna Karenina.
