Spirit
Opens Sep 13th London-based company Improbable (formerly known as Improbable Theatre, the folks who gave us 70 Hill Lane, and Lifegame) present a new theatre piece, Spirit. In Spirit, three performers struggle to tell the story of three bakers--brothers in a free country at war content with their daily routine until one day when a letter arrives giving one the chance to break free. The press release says, "With quiet improvisation, headless puppets, fractured storytelling, and dark humor, Spirit is a teasing and sad joke about both personal and global cycles of conflict, that hints at how we might break out of them." Schedule: Tue, Sun at 7pm; Wed - Sat at 8pm; Sat at 3pm About the New York Theatre Workshop New York Theatre Workshop is just that... a remarkable off-Broadway theatre noted for its acclaimed and innovative productions... a workshop where artists create new work, hone their craft and collaboratively explore theatre... all rooted in our cozy East Village digs located in the heart of New York's downtown arts scene. As a center of creative endeavor and artistic industry, NYTW's impact resonates far beyond the 188 seats of our theatre and the four walls of our rehearsal studio. In fact, with an average of four to six readings and related workshop events each week (not to mention summer residencies, artistic fellowships and other developmental activities), much of the work and many of the artists seen on stages throughout the city, across the country and around the world can trace their way back to NYTW. And while some of our progeny (like Rent and Dirty Blonde) have found their way uptown and onto successful commercial runs and tours, we are equally proud of all of our theatrical achievements -- from the signature work of Flemish director Ivo van Hove to an epic ensemble piece like Tony Kushner's Homebody/Kabul to the off-Broadway debut of writer/performer Alexander Thomas in his solo work Throw Pitchfork. |
