Written by David Byrne
The Public presents the world premiere of one of the most intriguing new musicals of the season. Penned by idiosyncratic Talking Heads frontman and Oscar winner David Byrne (Here Lies Love), Joan of Arc - Into the Fire tells the story of the legendary French military leader, who since her execution by the English in 1431, at the tender age of only nineteen, has became a towering cultural figure, a canonized saint and a symbol of freedom and liberation the world over.
Taking on the central role of Joan is singer Jo Lambert from the alt. rock group Tune-Yards, while Drama Desk and Golden Globe Award winner Alex Timbers (Mozart in the Jungle, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) directs.
What is Joan of Arc - into the Fire About?
Just how did a peasant girl born to a farming family in 15th Century France become one of the most famous military leaders of all time, and one who claimed to have been spurred on her path by religious visions? Into the Fire delves into Joan of Arc's extraordinary story, as well as the subsequent fight by her mother to clear her name of heresy.
