Following the success of Village Bike, playwright Penelope Skinner returns to MCC with an altogether more apocalyptic new work. Set in the Britain of the near future, The Ruins of Civilisation presents us with a country that is slowly sinking into the ocean, and one whose government watches over its citizens with a Big Brother level of surveillance. Married couple Dolores and Silver's lives drift by in a state of doomsday-fuelled anxiety, until one day Dolores invites a stranger in need into their house, and their relationship is changed forever.
Smart and sophisticated, The Ruins of Civilization explores the need to find human connection even in a world on the edge of destruction. The cast includes MCC regular and Drama Desk nominee Orlagh Cassidy (Bright Ideas, When We Were young and Unafraid) and Emmy nominee Tim Daly (The Sopranos). Lead C. Gardiner directs.
