The new play by Alan Hruska
A razor-sharp tragi-comedy by Alan Hruska, we follow the upheaval and fraught journey of a young chambermaid as she is forced from a comfortable position into poverty and insecurity for love. Helmed by director Rick Lombardo, whose previous works include Albatross at 59E59 in Boston, winning him the 2015 Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Production, this new work will play for a limited season only at New York City Stage 2 from winter 2017. A tale of personal struggle amidst widespread economic turmoil, this will touch many hearts.
Set in an undisclosed time period in New York, Miranda is a pretty young chambermaid in love with the butler Elliot in a forboding house ruled over by terror by the formidable Sir. When he unceremoniously dismisses Elliot- in defiance, she quits her position and leaves with him. Now without a home and gainful employment, the two must try to make their way in a stagnant economy with little hope for the future with few facts to guide them on their way to security.
