The newest drama by Abe Koogler
A world premiere drama by playwright Abe Koogler heads to Manhattan Theatre Club to close out its 2016/17 season, led by Deirdre O'Connell and directed by Daniel Aukin of Fool For Love. Joining on her on-stage will be Eboni Booth of Sundown and Yellow Moon, Bobby Moreno ofThe Year of the Rooster, and Frederick Weller of Mother And Sons. Journey into the dusty New Mexico desert with four strangers, who try to tackle their crippling loneliness - with unexpected results.
What is it about?
O'Connell plays a down-on-her-luck folk singer who desperately takes a job at a leading online retailer's shipping warehouse. Lonely and isolated from other people, she soon finds that people around her aren't faring much better. Her young manager is struggling to reconnect with his girlfriend, who recently relocated from New York to be with him. But who is the mysterious drifter living at a nearby campground, and what connection does he have with all of them?
This marks Koogler's second Off-Broadway work for MTC, following the 2015 triumph of Kill Floor. Centering on a former prisoner's difficult transition back to life outside the prison walls, it's a moving portrait of people rebuilding relationships that have lain dormant for so long.
