World Premiere
Two time Pulitzer Prize nominee Sarah Ruhl (The Next Room, or the vibrator play, The Clean House) presents her brand new play at the Lincoln Center, featuring a star-studded cast. How to Transcend a Happy Marriage promises to be yet another mix of surrealism and realism, shot through with Ruhl's singular sense of whimsy, and focuses on a mysterious young woman who goes from party oddity to life-changing guru.
Leading the cast of this world premiere are Oscar winner Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny, The Realistic Joneses) and Tony winner Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch).
What is Happy Marriage About?
At a dinner party in New Jersey two couples of married suburbanites are discussing their most interesting acquaintance: a young woman who hunts her own meat and has two live-in boyfriends. Fascinated by this outlier of polite society, they decide to invite her (and her two boyfriends) to their New Year's Eve party. The events that take place on that night causes both couples to question everything they about emotional fulfilment, sex and humans' primal urges.
