Since premiering in 1997 Disney's Broadway-busting musical brings the the African Serengeti to glorious life on stage as we join the naive yet plucky cub Simba on the adventure of a lifetime as he grows up and accepts his destiny as the leonine King of the Pride Lands in the face of tragedy. the beloved songs penned by Sir Elton John and Tim Rice (such as the soaring 'Circle of Life') are supplemented with original songs created for the show, and explodes with joyous, captivating music, intricate animal puppetry and a haunting atmosphere.

Since opening on Broadway in 1997, The Lion King has smashed records, evolving into the highest grossing show, playing to date, 6,700 performances and mounting new ones worldwide. The success is well deserved as the musical is a visually stunning affair, creating a realistic and thrilling landscape, with actors dressed as wild animals and encompassing their characters in a spectacular, goose bump-giving performance that keeps audiences coming back time and again.

Whether you want to see the spectacle for yourself for the first time, or are a returning visitor, you can be sure that this is a musical that the whole family can enjoy!

Described as "Hamlet with fur", we open to the dawn rejoicing of all the animals of the savannah, as new lion prince is born to the benevolent King Mufasa and his queen Sarabi. The cub, Simba, grows up into a lively and feckless youngster who gets into trouble with his childhood friend Nala; their exploits are looked over with despair by the sarcastic hornbill major domo Zazu. Together the two cubs play and discover their homeland in a series of adventures, until one day King Mufasa is tragically murdered by his brother Scar. Simba is usurped by his evil uncle, and retreats to the jungle to grow up with the sharp-witted meerkat Timon and his big-hearted wildebeest buddy Pumba.

When a grown-up Nala chances upon the carefree trio, she delivers bad news to Simba; Scar has all but destroyed the plentiful Pridelands through his partnership with the hideous hyenas. Despite shrugging this off, Simba realises that can't turn his back on his destiny forever, and now he must act and stop Scar once and for all, and reclaim his rightful place as King. But Scar isn't willing to give up the throne, leading the two into an almighty, fiery confrontation that will decide the fate of the Pridelands once and for all.

If you combine all of the productions of the show world wide together, The Lion King has been running for 90 years!
