Broadway's landmark musical THE LION KING has welcomed new cast members ALPHONSO ROMERO JONES II and Marquis Kofi Rodriguez ("Young Simba,) and SHEREEN PIMENTEL and SHANNON SKYE TAVAREZ ("Young Nala) to the company. Rodriguez and Pimentel made their Broadway debuts last night, September 29. Tavarez will make her Broadway debut tonight, September 30 and Jones will make his Broadway debut on tomorrow, October 1. Produced by Thomas Schumacher of Disney Theatrical Productions, THE LION KING officially opened on November 13, 1997 at the New Amsterdam Theatre. The production moved in its entirety, including all 52-cast members and the entire 24-member orchestra, from the New Amsterdam Theatre on June 4, 2006, and began performances nine days later at its current home, the Minskoff Theatre on June 13, 2006. The move followed the completion of custom renovations to accommodate the Tony Award-winning production. more »

'The Lion King' Delays Mandalay Bay Performances Until 5/5
Disney Theatrical Productions and Mandalay Bay have announced the award-winning Broadway phenomenon THE LION KING that is coming to the Mandalay Bay Theatre will delay the scheduled opening dates to "provide additional time for the transformation of Mandalay Bay Theatre to accommodate the spectacular set" according to a press release. THE LION KING was originally planned to have preview performances begin on April 20th and an official opening on May 2nd, 2009. The new opening night is now set for May 15th, 2009 with preview performances beginning May 5th, 2009. more »
Orangewood School Students Meet The Cast Of THE LION KING
Beginning in January, more than 80 students from Orangewood School from the Washington Elementary School District in Phoenix have participated in an intensive eight-week curriculum based program called "Kaleidoscope" presented by ASU Gammage, one of the leading performing arts presenters in the country. The program will culminate on Saturday, January 31 as the students will have a chance to see Disney's THE LION KING and have the exclusive opportunity to meet the cast. Since 1994, Kaleidoscope -a nationally recognized and awarded program - has been the only program of its kind in Arizona and nationally that educates and exposes students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience live theater. more »
