The Scarecrow
Opens Sep 30th A 1908 adaptation by Percy MacKaye of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “The Feathertop”, this haunting tale of witchcraft and romance follows the plight of a living scarecrow, fabricated by his “mother” to take revenge against a hypocritical but well-to-do neighbor. As the scarecrow discovers the limits of both his humanity and inhumanity, the play is a moving and delightfully theatrical exploration of the loneliness of humankind and a stirring portrait of existential outsider-ness.
