As part of the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts, this venue dedicated to ballet and opera first opened in 1966, replacing the original Metropolitan Opera House that opened in 1883 on Broadway, but was too small for advancing technology and stagecraft. It has a total of 4,000 seats, making it the largest purpose-built opera house in the world.

The Metropolitan Opera present Leos Janacek's 1904 seminal opera for the first time in nearly a decade this season. Familial honor is at stake, as a well-meaning woman takes terrible action to ensure her step-daughter's future in this emotionally overwrought psychological drama that pushes the performers and the audience. Starring Oksana Dya and Karita Mattia and conducted by David Robertson.

But when the Germans arrest her under suspicion of spying, can Des Grieux save her from certain death?
