The Visit

Closed June 14, 2015

"The Visit" is a cynical tragicomedy whose score is as gorgeous as its heart is hard.

The Wall Street Journal

Why See The Visit?

What's your Price?

After a critically lauded run last summer at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, Terrance McNally's dark, musical adaptation of Friedrich Durrenmatt's black comedy returns to Broadway with inestimable legend Chita Rivera at the helm. The production was nominated for five 2015 Tony Awards, including Best Play and a cast award for Ms. Rivera.

With music and lyrics from the musical geniuses behind Chicago and Caberet, Kander and Ebb and captivating choregraphy from Graciela Daniele The Visit is a powerfully emotive play, chilling to the bone as we confront the price we're all prepeared to pay for revenge, love and untold riches.

Look who's coming to town, what is the story of The Visit?

The town of Brachen, Switzerland is down on it's luck, with businesses failing by the day. When the locals hear of the return of their most famous and richest daughter, the oft- widowed Claire Zachanassian (Chita Rivera), they predict their fortunes are changing, along with their bank balances.

But Claire, now the world's wealthiest woman, has more than just a trip down memory lane in mind. She has a proposition for Brachen, for all the residents; to execute one of their own, the boy, (Anton, now a married shopkeeper,) who broke her heart all those years ago. Will they accept her deal and sacrifice their morality for a (very generous) handout, or will this town of ordinary people be able to see right from wrong?

Compelling, haunting and mischievous, The Visit is a welcome addition to the spring line up on the Great White Way and is sure to be an unforgettable show, making you question your own principles long after the curtain falls.
