A virtuosic performance - I would swear that, at times, Mr. Boyer isn't even moving his lips, ventriloquist-like - that never feels like a stunt, and it's both hilarious and heart-rending.

Hand To God is a "terrific, scary-funny play" about a possessed, foul-mouthed Christian-ministry hand-puppet which says pretty much anything on its mind, much to the horror of Jason (whose left arm it is attached to) and his mother (who is also his Sunday School teacher!).
The play places a familiar format - the ventriloquist puppet with a life of its own - in an unconventional context to create a dark and an edgy new comedy which toys with the more sinister side of human nature, the mood lightened of course by super-sharp comedy.
Hand To God now makes its Off-Broadway debut after a sell-out run at the Ensemble Studio Theatre. It is directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel and stars Steven Boyer as Jason.
Opening night: 20 March 2014
Booking through until: 30 March 2014
