BILLY ELLIOT Gets A New Michael; 'Mermaid's Trevor Braun Joins The Cast, First Perfomance Is 8/22

Universal Pictures Stage Productions, Working Title Films and Old Vic Productions in association with Weinstein Live Entertainment announced today that Trevor Braun will join The cast of BILLY ELLIOT in the role of ‘Michael,' Billy's best friend. At age 11, Billy Elliot marks Trevor's third bow on Broadway, having previously performed as ‘Chip" in Beauty and the Beast and ‘Flounder' in The Little Mermaid. Trevor will play his first performance in Billy Elliot on Saturday, August 22nd.

The 2009 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Billy Elliot the Musical stars David Alvarez, Tommy Batchelor, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish as Billy, Haydn Gwynne as Mrs. Wilkinson, Gregory Jbara as Dad, Carole Shelley as Grandma and David Bologna as Michael. Featuring music by Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, choreographed by Peter Darling and directed by Stephen Daldry, Billy Elliot the Musical opened at Broadway's Imperial Theatre (240 W 45th St) Thursday, November 13th and was the winner of ten 2009 Tony Awards.

Billy Elliot the Musical is the funny, heartwarming tale of a young boy with a dream, and a celebration of his triumph against the odds. Set against the historic British miners' strike of the 1980s, the story follows Billy's journey as a boy in a small mining town who, after stumbling across a ballet class while on his way to a boxing lesson, realizes that his future lay not in the boxing ring but on stage as a dancer.
