The life of 'Disco Queen' Sylvester is brought to life in this critically acclaimed musical, which arrives at the Gramercy Theatre this year for one night only! One of most iconic figures of 1970's counter-culture, Sylvester (real name Sylvester James, Jr.) emerged during the disco era, with hits such as 'Dance (Disco Heat)' and 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)'. Known for his fabulous stage garb and playful exploration of gender and persona, he became an HIV/AIDS activist in later life, before succumbing to the disease himself in 1988.
Mighty Real ran Off-Broadway two years ago, where it received glowing notices from the critics. Original star Anthony Wayne (Pippin, Anything Goes) returns for this staging, alongside Anastacia McCleskey (Priscilla, Book of Mormon) and Jacqueline B. Arnold (Priscilla, We Will Rock You).
