The Blind Banister is: a captivating work ... that goes from haunting and hopeful to an eventual explosion of energy
St. Paul Pioneer Press
The New York Philharmonic join forces with American piano virtuoso Jonathan Biss this Spring to bring you Beethoven's iconic Second Piano Concerto as well as an exciting new work created as a response to the dramatic piece. The grandson of renowned Russian cellist Raya Garbousova, Biss has previously performed with the classical elite, including the LA Philharmonic and the Boston, Chicago and San Francisco Symphonies.
Written by Brooklyn-based composer and pianist Timo Andres, the new work entitled The Blind Banister is part of a project that has brought about the creation of new concertos based on each of Beethoven's five concertos. The concert will also feature Elgar's In The South.
Opening night: 20 April 2017
