The name Phantom Of The Opera may be synonymous with the Andrew Lloyd Webber Broadway blockbuster, but the story traces its origins back to the gothic novel written by French author Gaston Leroux. Now LA-based theatre company Vox Lumiere is set to give the well-known tale new life by combining silent film and live performance to create a fully immersive and interactive theatre experience, the likes of which you've never seen before!
While using the famous 1952 silent film as part of its visuals, the production will be anything but quiet as it features an explosive rock, EDM and pop music score written by renowned composer Music and lyrics by Kevin Saunders Hayes.. There'll be live singing and dancing, embellished the drama, action and romance with an outrageous, yet fitting, steampunk meets Tim Burton aesthetic.
It's thrilling rollercoaster of a love story set in the opulence of the Paris Opera House in the late 19th century. The object of said romance is singer and protagonist Christine Daae, whose beauty and voice enchants all those who draw near, including her childhood friend Raoul and the mysterious masked figure of the Phantom, an opera house legend that turns out to be real when he kidnaps Christine in a bid to make her fall in love with him.
Gaining his trust, Christine unmasks the phantom to behold a monstrous face. Frightened, the young singer manages to leave and communicate with Raoul, all under the watchful eyes of the theatre's resident ghost. When he learns of Christine's feelings for Raoul, the phantom flies into a jealous rage and the lovers' future is more uncertain than ever...
