For its 28th Season, the Big Apple Circus proudly presents Grandma Goes to Hollywood. Inspired by the legendary town that produced silent films and the talkies, sweeping epics and musical extravaganzas, westerns, sci-fi fantasies, suspense thrillers, romances and (of course) comedies, Grandma Goes to Hollywood brings the celluloid dreams of the silver screen into the circus ring! With spectacle and spotlights, action and exploits, sawdust and glamour, the Big Apple Circus rolls out the red carpet for you, with celebrated star Grandma the Clown and her luminous cast of acrobats, jugglers, trapeze flyers, performing horses and dogs, humorists and superheroes of the Big Top. The fast pace and intimate setting will make movie moments come to life, in a show that will create unforgettable circus memories for your entire family Artistic director and producer Paul Binder and creative director Michael Christensen put together an incredible team to shape this year's production. Creative Team
With experience as both a performer in and director of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, director Steve Smith joins the creative team for his first collaboration with the Big Apple Circus. Composers Michael Valenti, fresh from last season's Picturesque, and Vince Martin bring a thrilling score to this season's creation. Also returning is musical director Rob Slowik, who conducts and performs with the Big Apple Circus band. Renowned for her glamorous dance numbers, Vicki Davis chassés into this season's creative team with scintillating choreography. Peter Wexler provides the scenic imagination, drawing on his experiences at the Metropolitan Opera, Repertory Theatre of Lincoln Center and elsewhere. Last credited for Clown Around Town, Paris-born David Belugou returns to captivate audiences with his vibrant costume designs. Multi-talented Guy Simard, with over 350 production credits in lighting, as theatre consultant or technical director, returns as lighting designer. Darby Smotherman returns for a sixth season with the circus as sound designer, and director of clowning Barry Lubin adds his unique comic sensibility to this Tinsel Town experience. Performers
