A long-lost play of Shakespeare?
They called it an “out-and-out forgery” when it was first unearthed in the 18th Century, but now many of the world’s leading Shakespearean authorities agree that his hand can be discerned in this intriguing tale of love, betrayal, madness and redemption.
Decide for yourself when CSC presents a minimalist staging of this work that has the critical community abuzz.
Duke Angelo of Andalusia has two sons: Roderick, the dutiful and virtuous son and heir, and Henriquez, a scapegrace and prodigal who is absent from the ducal court, pursuing his own interests.
Henriquez has just written his father a letter, requesting gold to buy a horse; Henriquez will send his friend Julio to court to receive payment. The Duke and Roderick decide to use Julio for their own purposes: they want Julio to spy on Henriquez for them.
Meanwhile, Henriquez is in the process of pursuing two women, Leonora and Violante. His pursuit of both women is the "double falsehood" of the title.
