Tony winner Karen Ziemba (Contact, Kid Victory) leads this drama from the pen of Pulitzer and Oscar winner Horton Foote, the writer of To Kill a Mockingbird's perfect screenplay, amongst many other classics. The Traveling Lady is delicate rumination on loss, and a portrait of the American small towns which were disappearing in the oil-boom of the 1950s. The story centers on a sleepy Texas town whose residents get all stirred up by the arrival of an out-of-towner.

This co-production from Cherry Lane Theatre and La femme Theatre Productions is directed by Tony nominee Austin Pendleton (The Little Foxes).

What is The Traveling Lady About?

Georgette Thomas has ridden the bus into Harrison all the way from Tyler to be reunited with her husband Henry, who has just been released from prison. Yet when she arrives, Henry is nowhere to be found. He was last seen at the funeral of his former foster mother Clara Breedlove, who, Georgette learns from the townsfolk, used to beat Henry something rotten when he was young. As Georgette goes hunting for her man, she discovers that's the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this quiet town's dark underbelly.
