With guest star Yo-Yo-Ma!
Rounding out their annual visit to New York's Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Orchestra present a thrilling triple program that celebrates the best of Mozart, Widmann and Strauss, conducted by Andris Nelson, and featuring world-famous cellist, Yo-Yo Ma. The program will also welcome viola star Steven Ansell. This concert forms part of the Orchestral Masterworks series, welcoming orchestras from across the country and the world, to perform at the iconic venue.
In a rare performance, Yo-Yo Ma and his beloved cello tackle the challenge of representing Don Quixote in Strauss's magnificent tone poem. In addition, a new work by German composer Jorg Widmann makes its American premiere; a commission by both Boston Symphony and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. The third piece of the program is Mozart's powerful 23rd Symphony, completed in his youth, and stormily dramatic in tone - commonly known as sturm und drang.
