In the latter part of the 19th Century, it was standard practise for women to become 'mail order brides', wherein, women would head out West to join lonely homesteaders in communities that lacked more than just the female touch. Abundance, from Pulitzer Prize winning Beth Henley is look at that life through the eyes of two such brides, Bess and Marcon, for whom life is about to become a very long and twisting adventure...
Spanning nearly 30 years of the women's friendship, Abundance derives a Gothic humour. Unimpressed by their choices of husbands, they both must learn to live on in an inhospitable and at times, fatally dangerous landscape. As the years go on, there is surprise and anguish to be had as friends become enemies and enemies become lovers in this tongue in cheek take on a Twainesque saga.
