Tis' But A Scratch!
It was 40 years ago that Monty Python made their big screen debut in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Tribeca is honoring this anniversary with a special screening of said knightly masterpiece. All five surviving Pythons (Michael Palin, John Cleese, Terry Jones, Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam) are reuniting for the showing, which takes place at The Beacon Theatre on the festival's last Friday.
Released in 1975, The Holy Grail is a surreal and stupendously silly send up of the Hollywood epic. It follows King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table on their quest for the religious artifact, with some very rude French men and killer bunnys among the perils which they must face (or run away from as the case may be). While 1979's Life of Brian may be a more culturally significant piece, many fans still consider Holy Grail to be the troupe's finest cinematic outing.
