An uplifting story of hope and discrimination in 1940s female baseball leaguesBuy Tickets
The Girls of Summer offers a unique insight into 1940s female baseball leagues, offering hope in the face of discrimination. This powerful drama centers on an all-negro female team who are being trained to compete against the Rockford Peaches, an all-white female team and champions of the AAGPBL (All American Girls Professional Baseball League).
Only a few weeks before the exhibition game is due to take place, the team's coach is found dead, leaving the girls to face this injustice alone alongside tackling discrimination - both off and on the field. Written by director, playwright and film producer Layon Gray, this play is a powerful drama which tackles these sensitive issues head-on as it uncovers the truth about what happened to the their coach.
