amazing, Apr 11, 2009
reviewer: Anonymous from Shrewsbury, MA USA
The musical was AMAZING. The singing was incredible, and the special effects were outstanding. I will never forget such a memorable experience. The only concern I have is the AIDS fundraiser campaign that occurs right after the show. While the purpose may be good, the phantom becoming a salesman ruins the atmosphere and mood the musical produced. Put signs in the hallway or something, but don't have the phantom suddenly start talking and selling stuff on the stage Other than that, the performance was astounding. The theater was superb. Everything turned the experience into one that I will never forget.

The Musical Is Awesome!, Jun 11, 2008
reviewer: Rose Willis from South Carolina
I loved watching it. I was great. I met Howard and we talked. It was just fantastic. I met his dog, Teddy, as well. Great dog. Jennifer Hope Wills was a great Christine. I absolutely love it. This is my 7th time watching this musical in New York. Trust me, if I weren't counting where I am watching this musical. The number would be 20th time. Right now, I am in my hotel room writing this message since I am going to watch it tomorrow! I can't wait.

Wonderful, splendid musical, Jul 10, 2008
reviewer: Rose Willis from South Carolina
This musical is a must-see delight. From the shadows of the Dungeons to the bright glares of the stages; this musical has it all. Romance enchants, while darkness blends, and just in the middle of it, sadness flows, making this musical a great treat. It is a phenomenon. I promise you won't regret watching this from any parts of the audience because you can experience it's magic anywhere.

Showing its age!, Apr 30, 2007
reviewer: Geoff and Pauline Wanstall from England
My husband and I have seen Phantom three times in London plus the film and this production was certainly not a patch on the London one. We felt that some of the performers were rather lack lustre, the music was a terrible let down - where was the wonderful crescendo at the beginning? The sound was pretty awful and I have heard better singers than the woman who played Christine in our local amateur theatre. Andrew Lloyd Webber would be horrified if he saw this production as it is now. We also thought that some of the theatre staff were extremely rude to the paying customers, shouting at them to sit down in their seats! They should be taught some manners! It just wouldn't happen in London! Perhaps the director should head down to see the production of Curtains where the cast are so enthusiastic and you can hear every word spoken and sung.

The Best Show On Broadway, May 25, 2007
reviewer: Brian from Edison, NJ USA
This is truly the best play I have ever seen and will see! The actors are magnificent. Their voices are so strong and powerful, yet delicate and perfect all at the same time. The seats of the rear mezzanine were spectacular. I sat in the front row, and I was absolutely pleased! I would take anyone who wanted to see this to this utterly magical play. This play is beyond worth-wild to see! It would be the great start to a magical, romantic evening with a lover, family, or friends. This will definately be the talk of the town for weeks! I shall never forget the evening I went to see this mysteriously romantic opera. It was truly a night I will remember for the rest of my life. Go see it as soon as possible for a night to remember!

After 21 years the magic is lost, Mar 18, 2009
reviewer: Let the Phantom Burn from Houston
I Just got back from a wondferul trip to NYC, I actually proposed to my girlfriend of two years there. She had never been to the city before and I couldn't wait to share with her my best memories. One of which is seeing Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. I have see the show 4 times. The first time was a travelling show in Oklahoma, it was absolutley stunning and brought me to tears. The second and Third time was in New York Both performances were amazing, strong performers and a great setting. This most recent showing I wish i would never had seen. We set closer then i have set before and I highly regret it. The performers were the worst I have seen, I felt they had no heart at all. I usually side with the Phantom, but this phantom did not compell me at all. The worst part! After their bows the Phantom came out and preached about AIDs awareness, After the crowd had spent 2.5 hrs and tons of money to be a part of this epic. It was shattered in a moment. SHAME SHAME SHAME

Still a Must See for anyone in NYC, Sep 06, 2010
reviewer: Zack F from Slatington, PA USA
Went to see the show on 9-3-2010: Had seats towards the rear of the orchestra section, center stage. The plot was amazing. The cast was high energy, the special effects were outstanding, and the sound system was clear and crisp. John Cudia as Phantom and Jennifer Hope Wills as Christine had an awesome chemistry. It is incredible to me that the entire cast manages to keep the show so fresh and vital even after the many shows that they have performed. IMHO, the Phantom is still a Must See for anyone looking for a premium theater experience. Highly Recommended.

Absolutely Wonderful!, Apr 11, 2006
reviewer: Nicole from OH
I am 35, visited NY for the first time and being a fan of the 1943 version of Phantom of the opera I HAD to see the broadway version. At first I wasn't thrilled because it vered from the 1943 version quite a bit.. but after only a short time, it captured me. It showed the more romantic side vs the HORROR side. I cried twice because it was so wonderful and aspiring! I wish I could have seen it again the next day. Even my husband enjoyed it. The actors and actresses had amazing voices. There were several teenagers in the theater as well and I thought they would be yaking through the show, but the theater was so quite as EVERYONE was captured by the experience. No wonder it is the longest playing broadway show EVER. 18 Years and still running a sold out show every time.

Best Broadway Show By Far, Jul 03, 2007
reviewer: Stefanie from New York, NY
I asked my parents for tickets to PotO for my tenth birthday, after receiving "The Best of Andrew Lloyd Weber" CD as a Christmas gift and falling in love with the music, specifically Music of the Night. I am now 21, and have seen Phantom of the Opera every year for my birthday since then, as well as other special occasions. I have seen other musicals, most of the critically acclaimed ones, and to date, none have ever come close to the emotional attachment I have to Phantom. I learned something new, caught something different, every time I saw it. I find myself quietly singing along. The sets are amazing, the theatre itself is amazing, and the music is unforgettable. If you haven't seen Phantom yet, you are missing out. This play is brilliant, timeless, and stunning. Hands down the best musical ever, and the best Broadway show ever. Do yourself a favor and get tickets, you will be so happy. It is a truly magical experience for patrons of all ages.

Great show, terrible atmosphere, Dec 16, 2008
reviewer: Melissa from Erie, Pa
Why would this beautiful theatre sell candy and treats that guests are allowed to consume during the show?? All we heard the enture show was the crumpling of candy wrappers. And the theatre SOLD THE CANDY! Awful. Its a Broadway show, not a dollar movie.

Phantastic!!, May 02, 2006
reviewer: A Phan from NYC
The Phantom of the Opera is, without a doubt my very favorite musical. The show is absolutely timeless. The sets and the costumes are incredible. But the music...the music is the most beautiful thing about this show. (in my opinion!) The songs are haunting and you will be whistling them for days afterwards. The entire show is a spectacular spectacle that you must see at least once in your lifetime. Let yourself fall captive and let the Phantom show you the power and the passion of the Music of the Night.

COULD NOT HEAR THE WORDS IN THE SONGS, Aug 20, 2009
reviewer: Marcy from New Jersey
Either the acoustics were not set up properly, or the actors mumbled while singing. At first, I thought that since I'm middle aged, maybe my hearing is going. But then during intermission I heard many of the other patrons saying that they also had difficulty understanding (not hearing) the words. The costumes and the set were beautiful, the theme great, but we missed most of the show because we didn't know what the actors were singing for much of the performance. Shows are so costly and I attend a performance once every 1-2 years as a treat. I feel like I wasted my time and money here.

A disgraceful interpretation of The Phantom of the Opera, Apr 21, 2014
reviewer: Anonymous from Rochester, New York
This show was absolutely dreadful. From the staging to the choreography to the acting to the singing. The Phantom of the Opera has been one of my favorite productions since I was a child. This past experience left a bad taste in my mouth. If I hadn't known every line of the show, I would not know what the actors were saying half the time. The phantom himself was quite a disappointment. He did not have the voice to play that role. And as for the staging...the chandellier is supposed to be on the stage at the start of the show. The dramatics of that is what really starts the show. Also, the staircase was missing in "masquerade". It felt as though the production was trying to be "budget friendly" and cut out some things that really provide an impact on the audience. It was just all around awful and I would definitely not recommend seeing it. If I could get my money back I would.

Outstanding!!!, Apr 22, 2006
reviewer: Penny Ellis from St. Johnsbury VT.
We saw Phantom on April 18th, and it was one of the most memorable shows I've ever seen. Everything was expertly executed. The storyline was wonderful and the actors brought it to life. There was not one thing about the performance that was lacking in any way. the only downfall of the entire evening was when the actors spent so long asking for donations during the curtain call. I felt this was very inappropriate. Other than that, everything was great!

The Phantom of the Opera is the best show in broadway. 18 years in broadway history is a long time and the show is still popular. Howard Mcgillin, brad little, John Owen Jones, and Michael Crawford are the greatest. This show is a great start to enjoy the musical world. Its something you will never forget. There is nothing like it. Trust me you will fall in love with the show and music.

[BEST EVER], Dec 02, 2006
reviewer: PHANTOM LOVER from NEW JERSEY
This was the best show i have ever seen!!! I saw it a few months ago in January and i couldnt believe how great it was. It is a must see for [EVERYONE]!! The only bad (well it was kinda funny) thing was that the phanotom kept on spitting because of the mask when he sang. Other than this it was breathtaking. The costumes are creative and the seating is great.! I sat in about the 7th or 8th row back in orchestra and everything seemed so real. The show is great for kids too but the beginning might scare some because a spark is set off when the chandaler(i know thats spelled wrong) comes down. Some parts are a bit spooky but the soundtrack, actors, and atmospthere are the best!!! A must see for anyone and any age.

The best play EVER!!!!!!, Jan 05, 2008
reviewer: Samantha Picerno from Southern Pines, North Carolina
My fiance and I went with my parents to New York to see Phantom of the Opera Dec 4! It was absolutely incredible! We were sitting in the Orchestra seats in row E right in the middle and they were amazing seats! I would seriously recommend sitting near the front if you can, when the Chandelier falls it looks like it may fall right on you! But the Phantom did a Phantastic job!!!! He showed so much emotion and did such a wonderful job singing! Christine and Raoul did amazing as well! The whole cast did a great job! The managers were hillarious and so was Carlotta and her husband! And Madame Giry was almost scary! But the only person that didn't do amazing was Meg who I couldn't hear very well but she still did okay! This was definately the best play on Broadway and I don't think anyone, especially a Phantom fan, should even go without seeing this show! God Bless!

Claire & Peter's from Perth WA Broadway Experience, Mar 27, 2008
reviewer: Claire Pepper from Perth Western Australia
I had to wait until I was 48 and my partner Peter was 58 to attend a broadway show when we recently visited New York - we were so glad we chose The Phantom of the Opera. I was totally speechless with the breathtaking performance and the endless talent of the artists. I cried for the whole last scene - please pass my congratulations and sincerest thanks to the performers for a fantastic performance that we shall remember all our lives - your theatre was magnificent, the scenery and props were unbelievable and I get goosebumps every time I listen to the music from the Phantom. We will return to Broadway one day I am sure - thank you once again for broadening our lives with your wonderful talents. Encore!

Such a Wonder how it could not be better!, Jul 14, 2008
reviewer: Harry Pfarrer from Burn after reading
Really, I mean nowadays you would expect George Clooney's affairs, Brangelina's twins, and all of that mess, but if you look back to the 80's, that is a gold! Phantom of the Opera, a fantastic musical with a deformed, disfigured genius, whatever you's call it trying to lure a girl to his place. Well, what a classic love tale, no? Not quite. Well, the girls leaves him, leaving him emotionally scared forever, not that he already is, but a deeper scar. And it gets even more heartbreaking when the girl returns to give him her ring. Well, she leaves nothing behind except memories for the Phantom. He cries and is lost forever. Classic tale, right? Well, no matter what I said, it is just a sketchy outline, the real story is quite complicated and even more heartbreaking, a guy can only take so much. So all I can say is for you to work sweat n' hard for tickets and feel good. Enjoy! Bon Apetite at 21, too! That is a restaurant in New York, only 5 blocks away from The Majestic.

The Phantom of the Opera is the ultimate Broadway musical. It has something for everyone. Love, some action/effects, a little scare, and AMAZING music! This is the show to see if you go to New York (or if the touring company comes your way.) This is the MUST-SEE musical. I reccomand it to anyone. If it still is around when I have kids, I'll definately take them! The stes, effects, costumes and music is awesome! It is such a powerful, moving and great musical.

12 years can change (for the worst), Feb 09, 2009
reviewer: Carl from Pennsylvania
I saw Phantom 12 years ago, and I was actually hooked on theater since. Fast forward 2008 (I know I am late on writing this). I was extremely excited for my fiance to to experience Phantom. It hurt, Alot! The acting was mediocre, the singing was horrid. I cannot however blame all the problems on the actors. It was obvious to me that after seeing the movie (oops!) that they had indeed changed it to fit the movie. The phantom went from a cool, collective temper, to a whiney spazmatic kid who gets picked on in school. I would not recommend this shows to anyone who wants to enjoy their first show. Who knows maybe I will give it another shot in twelve years.

magical birthday for daughter, Feb 15, 2009
reviewer: mimzysmom from connecticut
My husband and I took our 9 year old daughter to Phantom for her birthday. She loves the movie, and wanted to see it on Broadway. We bought orchestra seats in front of the upper mezzanine balcony, so she could see the chandelier drop. It was worth every penny. She had an amazing time. The staff was very pleasant. The bathrooms were clean, theater as well. The theater was beautiful. Only disappointment was we wanted to get a picture of our daughter at the end of the show with the stage in the background, after people had left. Staff insisted we leave the theater. New sound system was great, heard every song clearly. Would love to see again.

Je t'aime le Fantome de l'Opera., Jul 05, 2006
reviewer: Jennifer Dulo from Roebling, NJ USA
Okay. I wish I had more than 1000 characters to describe this amazing musical. I've loved The Phantom of the Opera for about two years now, have seen it twice, and intend on seeing it at least twice more, but probably lots more then. This is the most beautiful story in the whole history of time, ranking with stories like Notre-Dame a Paris, and Les Miserables. This story, about a man who loves a woman so fully but is rejected her love because of a physical deformity, is a story about all of us. Because, as Gerard Butler, who played Phantom in the 2004 movie once said, "I think the Phantom is such a powerful story because I think a lot of people think that, deep down, that if they were to open up to the world, that it would find them repulsive, and ugly." There is a Phantom in all of us, and I am so happy that this musical can show us this. I have dedicated my life to this story, to this musical. And if you don't cry when seeing it, then you have no heart.

A view from the UK, Dec 02, 2006
reviewer: D Curtis from Derby, UK
We stayed in Manhattan for three days during Thanksgiving week (20-23 Nov 2006) and decided to see Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic. There were only 7 seats left when we booked on the day before seeing the show. We had seats in the rear mezzanine, but being steeply tiered, could see the stage very clearly. The performance was very good and we would recommend it to others. The set, costumes and singing were magnificent and despite the music being very familiar, was throughly entertaining. My only concern was the huge crush of people trying to leave at the end of the show - the limited exit routes would not have passed a Health & Safety Audit in the UK!

AMAZING, May 11, 2007
reviewer: Joseph from Stroudsburg, PA USA
I went to see the show this week in New York. When I first got in the theater I knew that it was going to be outstanding. The show was amazing, I have never seen anything better in my life. The lighting, the costumes, and the sets were amazing, and the music there was no words for. I loved the special effects, a lot of them were very thrilling and a lot of them scared me. It was very cool to see this going on in front of you. I Had 4th row seats and an amazing view, but I am sure throughout the whole theater you can see perfect. I think this is a great show to see if you are in New York. I would take children over the age of 8 if they were interested, but children under that age might not be interested at all, and they might get scared. I found a great restaurant right across the street from the theater. If anyone is in New York and wants to see an amazing show see The Phantom of the Opera.

Phantom of the Opera, May 18, 2007
reviewer: James Brackett from Santa Barbara, CA, USA
My wife and I have attended this show four years running at the Majestic Theaterm in NYC. Each time we have attended, we have enjoyed the show, even though we have continuously been moved further and further back during the matinees. We will return this year in July and again, attend the show, perhaps spending the extra money to get nearer to the stage or again taking our chances with the discount ticketing. I have never enjoyed a show as much as Phantom of the Opera. The music, the singing, the scenery, it all seems so real. I've seen every deviation of the Phantom of the Opera, having been a fan of the story before this show was written, and this was written, directed and produced by Masters. I just hope this year when we attend in July we can be up close and real.

The Phantom of the Opera is the best show ever. Between the sights, sounds, lighting, actors, and music, it was great. This show is one of the shows that you can go and see over and over agian. I can go on and on about it but, I can't. But the coolest part was the ending. How did they get him off of the stage in that chair in the middle of the stage? The world may never know.

Phantom Walks on Water, Nov 11, 2007
reviewer: Juliana from Colorado
The cast and crew of the London production of Phantom are professionals with one goal in mind, and that is to entertain and impress even the avid theatre-goer. Never have I been so pleased to sit through a musical as I sat and watched this eye-candy of costumes, music, and theatrics. This play must be seen by old and young alike and you'll want to see it more than once. It is the kind of theatre that draws you back again and again to witness the spectacle of theatre magic. I left the theatre with my friends, dizzy with enthusiasm, giddy with songs in my head, excited to talk about what I had seen and heard. The direction, acting, and singing well exceeded my hopes and dreams. This is what theatre was meant to be, this is what playwrights work so hard for, to make the audience leave the theatre walking on air believing they have just seen something phenomenal.

exceptional friendliness, Aug 24, 2008
reviewer: Michael McBarron from Aarhus, Denmark
I recently attended a Wednesday evening performance together with my 2 daughters (23 and 25) and son-in-law while we were on holiday from Denmark. Unfortunatelly, I'd got the dates mixed up and our tickets were for the Monday show. The staff could just have shrugged their shoulders, it was, after all, my fault. Instead they found some dining chairs and managed to squeeze us into fairly good places in a sold-out theatre. I'll be eternally grateful for the understanding and friendliness of the theatre staff in general, and manager in particular, in rescueing our evening and, in great part, our trip to New York. By the way, the show, by unanimous consent, was wonderful.

A triumph of musical theatre, Jul 28, 2011
reviewer: Anonymous from New York, New York
I have seen "The Phantom of the Opera" at the Majestic Theatre 16 times. At this point, I simply cannot attend other, lesser shows with the knowledge that this is playing. It has spoiled me in a way no other musical, play, or opera has ever managed to spoil me before. As I write this review, Hugh Panaro and Sara Jean Ford lead the company as the title character and Christine Daaé, respectively. Hugh Panaro's voice is sublime; those few high notes that give some Phantoms pause simply do not stand a chance against him. Hearing him sing is like being caressed by an angel. Then you mix Sara in and you feel that you are hearing the personal choir of God almighty. While some Christines struggle in their middle and lower ranges, Sara's voice hits each and every note with a precision I have yet to find in any other performer. These two performers, combined with an excellent supporting cast, a haunting score, and Maria Bjornson's unforgettable scenery and costumes yield an incredible show.

black out, Jan 17, 2013
reviewer: Anonymous from New York, New York
Great show last time I saw it but the venue is another story. I got very sick and blacked on my feet as soon as the lights went out, started walking out, apparently was extremely disoriented since I didnt completely pass out and then was treated like a mentally instable person. Its happened before where my tie is a little tight and I get lite headed. I guess I could see how some people might make the mistake but FYI heres some things that they could have done instead. Called the paramedics sooner, loosened my tie, splashed water on my face, got my phone off my hip and called my wife (its labeled wife in case of emergency) who was in her seat. As I came to I could hear them talking about locking me up. As soon as the paramedics got there they knew I was stable and I was on my way. Just very embarassing and traumatic. I was lucky, I could have had a sesure or something. I guess iam writing this in the hopes that I educate someone.

The NEW changes are disappointing , Dec 27, 2013
reviewer: Anonymous from Minneapolis, Minnesota
If you've never seen the original Phantom of the Opera, you'll likely enjoy the experience not knowing what you're really missing. Those however that have attended previously will be disappointed with the changes, especially the Masqureade scene. It went from an amazing spectacle to nothing noteworthy . Performers & orchestra did fantastic. I enjoyed Mark Campbell as Phantom. Some of the changes though seem to have caused a lack of passion/connection between the characters. I usually attend a few times when Phantom is in town, once will be enough with the "new" version.

If you have never seen other productions of the Phantom Of the Opera, and if this was your first time seeing it, then you probably thought it was fantastic but not knowing what the past shows were like let me just say that I have been to many other productions of Phantom and this one was a total disappointment and I was dissatisfied with it . The set was interesting but It did not have the grandeur of past sets & did not feel like broadway. Very lacking. No passion from the actors Singing was just ok I have heard better. Over all. I think it was poorly done. Costumes were disappointing and even more disappointing was Masquerade, no splendid costumes and grand staircase no crashing cymbals, not nearly good enough singing. Feeling so let down because I know how amazing the Phantom can be I've seen it ! And this show was anything but. So so dissatisfied and disappointed. What a bummer. I have seen it before and it was so much better in the past than in this production. Shame.

A huge letdown from previous shows we have seen in the past, Jun 15, 2014
reviewer: Don and Dawn C from Appleton, Wisconsin
My wife and I have seen Phantom 8 times in the past. At intermission we stood up and looked at each other with the gaze of what has just happened. Songs shortened, lyrics changed, at times humor and playful nature of the actors minimized. Huge changes in the set and outright leaving parts out that made the original show so magicial. The chandilier rising from the stage, the boat ride and song as they went to his lair, the stair case and costumes in Masquerade. Christine putting the ring on a table instead of giving the right back to the Phantom directly. The singing and acting was at least 2 steps below anything we had seen in the past shows. We waited all year for this show, and to be let down so badly, I wish we could get a refund and see a different show. For those that have never seen Phantom of the Opera, they probably enjoyed this very much. But if you have seen the old version of this show, skip this one and do not let your fond memories be tainted.

reviewer: Anne Catherick from Newport Rhode Island.
Andrew Lloyd Webbers, phantom of the opera, which is now the longest show in broadway history, is faboulus. On January 9, 2006, made they're 7,486th performance on Broadway. This is my favorite show in the world. I've seen this show about three times. I can't wait to go see it again. I wish I saw their 7,486th performance. Michael Crawford, the original Phantom, was there. This is a beautiful show to look at. Believe me. This was my first live show. I saw this show when I was five years old. I'm now 15 and I want to go see it again. I think when I get older I'm thinking that I want to go be in it. This is the most beauitful show you should also go see this. Beauitful.

We will never forget the superb perfomance. The children enjoyed the show as much as we did. I highly recommend this as part of your visit to the city.

The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway is so awesome! I thought the movie was good, this totally beats it. My favorite scene in the play was when they were singing the Phantom of the Opera on the lake and the fog looked SO COOL. Maybe one day I will be playing Christine, it's my dream :) Who knows? But for now, great job Andrew Lloyd Webber for creating this, what would I do without it?

This show created my love of theater. I have seen it twice so far and listen to the soundtrack all the time and cannot get enough of it. The plot is beautifully complex. The mechanics, sound, and lighting create a universe onstage. The music reflects clearly on the themes present in every scene. Truly Webber's finest show.

I knew I would enjoy seeing this play, I'd already had several friends tell me how awesome it was. However, I made my "good ole' boy" N.C. husband go on 9/29/06 and yes, he too said it was better than he thought it would be. I borrowed the soundtrack from a friend and he will replay a song on his own without me even asking. HA! I can hardly believe it! Women, make your husbands take you to see it, they won't be disappointed! Oh yeah, the voices from the play are actually better than the voices on the CD!

Best musical ever., Apr 22, 2007
reviewer: Diana from Chicago, IL USA
Phantom of the opera is the best musical to ever hit the broadway stage. From the first word I was captivied by the whole thing. The characters, the plotline, the set, and most importantly, the MUSIC. This is by far Andrew Lloyd Webber's most ingenius creation, and if you are in London, Las Vegas or NYC, you are making the biggest mistake of your life not to see it. I've seen it four times live, and everytime is a whole new expierence in itself. I had great seats both times in NYC [other times were in London and Vegas]. I wouldn't take children under 5 years to see the show. Some parts a little dark, not very but a little. Kids 8 and under, it might just go over their heads. This is the best show on broadway, and everyone should see it at least once in their lifetime! It's absolutely fantastic!!!

reviewer: jude from scotland uk
We went to see the show on mon 24th march & as a serious phantom fan i do have high expectations of the musical, I was not dissapointed, Mc Gillan was everything the phantom should be and more!! he displayed the passion, anguish & vulnerability of the phantom, you have to love him. what a voice he was born for this role! All the cast were terrific & i sobbed my way through the end of the show! wish lord webber would one day give us the ending we so wish... The ages of our party were 12, 36, 57, & 69 and we all loved it as it has variety for everyone: comedy, music, romance, special effects, passion & drama. was amazing for a show which has been running for 20 years on broadway & west end to still have standing ovations every night. bravo. I do have one regret though, I so wish I had seen it a few more times, never mind always an excuse to go back. well worth travelling 3,600 miles for!! enjoy every minute.

Showing its age, Apr 10, 2008
reviewer: Anonymous from Anytown, AT 55555
I saw the March 25, 2008 performance, and went in with high expectations. I had seen Phantom in the Majestic in 1990 and was so enchanted with it that I jumped at the chance to see it when I returned to NYC this spring. However, I feel that the show has become very dated, and the music and performers were not nearly as sharp as they could and NEED to be. No, we didn't have the greatest seats, but for what we paid for our seats, I would have hoped to be able to hear the whole show... this was not the case. I really struggled to hear during most of the performance... and I do NOT have hearing problems! In short, I wish that I had seen another show instead of seeing this flat performance of Phantom. Sadly, with so many other choices in town, this should not be at the top of anyone's list anymore.

The show was fantastic! The long run has in no way dulled the intensity of the performance. McGillin is probably the finest voice I have ever heard. The only complaint was that I froze throughout the entire performance. If you are seated in row R of the orchestra section, dress for a winter sleighride and you will thoroughly enjoy the performance.

We couldn't hear or understand most of the show!, May 30, 2008
reviewer: Janet U from NY/NJ area
I was very disappointed with our recent visit to POTO at the Majestic. We had pretty good seats (and paid a lot of money for them), Front Mezz Center, Row E, and we could barely make out most of the (singing) dialogue. The only performer who we could hear and understand clearly was the Phantom character, so we know it wasn't the aucoustics. So at least half the scenes had no meaning for us and we had no idea what was going on....I can't believe more people aren't experiencing this.

Phantom was Okay, Feb 09, 2009
reviewer: Zack from Carrollton, GA
When my fiancé and I came to New York, we wanted to see a show or two. We saw Wicked first and then saw Phantom the next day. In my opinion, Phantom was not at the level of Wicked. The story line was hard to follow and did not seem very developed. I had a hard time understanding some of the singing from the supporting characters. However, the sining from the main characters was outstanding. I would not see this show again.

Phantom of the Opera, Aug 17, 2009
reviewer: Samantha from Leesburg, FL USA
Having seen Phantom on tour in both Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale I was so excited to finally see it on Broadway..it has been a dream of mine. The performance was good--but upon leaving the theatre I was very disappointed--it literally ruined the show. Rude staff basically kicked us out while the orchestra played at the end...to the tune of staff literally yelling "turn off your cameras" repeatedly (this could have been handled with much more class)--I stayed and listened to both touring orchestras--something that I thoroughly enjoy and looked forward to this time--with the cast out & about speaking to patrons. I expected a more professional and refined experience from New York. It really was a disappointment. The touring group in both cases was so much more professional. I am still amazed...saw it on Friday--8/14/09. I am from a small town in Central FL...I don't have super high expectations, but this was a major let down.

Great show, disappointing theater..., Jan 28, 2012
reviewer: Anonymous from New York
I was very excite to go and experience my first broadway show ever in nyc. I have to say the show itself was very good, it kept my attention through out the show. The theater was disappointing, the seating was very small and narrow, my husband is not a big guy and yet he had to stretch his legs towards my side to keep from bumping the head of the person in front of us. The biggest complain we have is the staff of the theater, they were rude and pushy. When I asked for direction for the seating, the lady sounded very impatient and arrogant. When the show was over, the gentlemen who was directing us out was commenting everyone like a hurdle of animals, yelling across and saying: "hurry up, I want to go home sometime tonight and I have a cleaning crew coming, hurry!!!" Excuse us but I paid good money for the show and that was no way of treating the customers like that, and that somewhat killed my experience for the evening.

Disappointed in this version of Phantom., May 09, 2014
reviewer: Anonymous from Cincinnati, Ohio
While it was a good show, it was Not a phenomenal show. The singing was good but I have heard better. I have seen better Productions of Broadway's Phantom of the Opera , this show was very different from past shows I have seen I did not think it was as well done and I was let down and disappointed. It felt like they did not want to put much money into this show. The set was revolving and though interesting didn't feel like a broadway set. The singing was good but not mind blowing I have seen better. I didn't feel the passion from the actors in the lead roles. Costumes were not as good as in past either. Masquerade was a disappointment as well. No grand stair case or splendid costumes. No cymbals cashing not well enough singing. I guess if this was your first time seeing it you would have loved it but I have seen it many times before and this performance was a let down because the past Phantoms I have seen were just so phenomenal and amazing.

I saw The Phantom Of The Opera on April 7th and the show in itself was the most amazing thing I've ever seen, but where were the voices??? As a 17 year old I should have very little trouble hearing the performance from the front mezzanine but somehow it was mostly inaudible. The audible parts where however amazing, and as for Raoul (the actors name escapes me) 10/10!!! He was truly excellent. Unfortunately Howard Mcgillin was not on that night but alas, I would like to see it again!

On Wednesday 4 October 2006 we arrived early to collect our tickets 1 hour before the show started and had nothing but co-operation and consideration by Lawrence (the front of house Manager?) and all his staff. Thank you very much, your assistance was much appreciated - it was very difficult with JW being partially sighted and not very steady on his feet. The show was absolutely breathtaking, the acting and singing superb, the music lifting - and the orchestra very accommodating by playing some encores after the end of the show! Thank you, you made the night very special! Also Lawrence thank you for organising us getting a cab after the show - that could have been very daunting! I CANNOT SAY THANK YOU ENOUGH TO EVERYBODY WHO MADE OUR VISIT SO MEMORABLE. XXX

We went to see the show last night (11/7/06) and were very disappointed in the performances by The Phantom and Christine. I will say that The Phantom was the under study. However, his voice was very winey and he was fat. As for Christine, she needs to tune up her voice. Quite a bit sharp and couldn't hold a high note.

This show was weird. It was seriously depressing and boring. I didn't get the story at all! Some creepy guy that has a secret lair in an opera house falls in love with a soprano and becomes jealous of the guy she loves and tries to kill him while throughout the whole show sings boring operatic songs that are too overdone. Did I miss anything? This is what you're getting when you see this show. Enough said...

reviewer: Laura from Houston, Tx
I have seen this play about 6 times and I will reach 8 by the end of the month. It is my favorite play. The current cast is wonderful. Howard Mcgillin portrays a bit of an angry Phantom, but yet when he sings Music of the Night he sounds like an angel. Jennifer Hope Wills adds a youthful twist to Christine. She can hold her high notes very well. Her eyes are full of passion. Think of Me has never sounded better. Michael Shawn Lewis, my all time favorite Raoul, is still wonderful. His lines in the auction scene are so heartfelt and moving. All I Ask of You has so much love in it. I recommend going to the stage door after the play. Just turn right when you leave the theater, turn right on the first street. Wall to 45th and turn right. Go to the two big grey doors after the Milford and wait. The actors are so nice. Some children may be frightened at this performance, because of the way Howard plays the role...and the lights and loud music. So don't take a kid that cries during movies.

What a show! It was a long time ago when I went in Belgium to the Belgian version of 'The Phantom Of The Opera' and then, I enjoyed it. So last week, when we were visting NY, we decided to go to the Broadway version, and well, it was amazing!!! Everybody who goes visiting NY, this is a must-see!! I sat in the orchestra part en the sound was great. And what great voices! I need to give my compliments to Howard McGillin, who plays the Phantom extraordinary! You just hear the anger and the fear in his voice, he plays the Phantom like it should be played. Also the other actors were very impressive. Keep a seat for when I'll come back!! Because I have never seen such a show, such beautifull decors and such good actors, this deserves 5/5! Tom

The whole cast made the experience special especially as the show has been running for a long time. I went to see it on 6/26 with my 17 year old daughter. Had great seats in row C slightly to the left of center. The music at moments grabs you and pulls you towards the stage. The costumes were exeptional as were the stage effects. There were several scenes where so much was going on (i.e., Masquerade) and there were so many fantastic costumes that you weren't sure where to look for fear of missing something. The Phantom's voice was powerful and his performance spectacular. Highly recommend it.

I chose to see this show because I loved the film and also because the story is really interesting. I saw the show the 28th September at 8pm. The Orchestra and cast were totally amazing as were the settings and costumes. I really enjoyed the whole show and would defnitely see it again.

Completly Astounded !, May 13, 2010
reviewer: Kiani from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
I am 15 years old and went to see the Phantom of the Opera as a late Christmas gift and could not wait to see it live after falling in love with the movie and book. When I went, I sat in the orchestra section and the view was spectacular. My mother went with me to see it and had no idea of anything having to do with the Phantom and she loved it. I cannot express how much of a state of awe I was in the entire show, especially the ending. I wanted to practically cry because it was over even though I knew it was coming. I bought various items of nice merchandise and recommend it to everyone! I am attempting to persuade my mother into seeing it again, this time with my brother and step-father!

Young Critic's Point of View, Jun 07, 2010
reviewer: Critic from Memphis, TN USA
While I love the "Phantom" I must admit I was a bit disappointed. I have read this book 15 times, seen a recording of the original cast 55 times, and watched the movie more times than I can count. While the performance that I went to seemed to have no emotion in it. I know every line, every word, and every part of this play and i must say I could do a better job then what I saw. The actress that played Christine seemed to force her voice to a point of it being unhealthy and unnecessary. The Phantom was not as much as a failure; by the fact that his phrasing was off and the breathing seemed shallow he was okay. The rest of the cast just looked flat out tired and sluggish like they had been out drinking earlier and not tried to put on their best performance. In the overall point of this review is that I a young critic have been disappointed by the legendary "Phantom of the Opera".

reviewer: Lorrie from Virginia Beach, Virgina USA
We were visiting NY for the weekend and just on a whim decided to see if we could see the Phantom to our surprise they had seats left for only $40 we were a little worried they would be nose bleed and not be able to see anything but to our surprise we were able to see the entire stage and hear each and every song clearly. This show was AMAZING!!! The singing, dancing, sets and music were awesome so glad we decided to take a chance! Highly recommend this show to everyone!!!

This was my first ever broadway musical showthat I watched and I loved it! I went here with my Senior Class. I wanna go back to NYC just so I can watch this. It gave me chills because it was so great and detailed like the movie. All the actors and actresses were fantastic! I told my family that they needed to watch it. I was pleased with my seats. Yes I would take my whole family. If youre going to NYC, this is a MUST SEE!Before the show, I went to Hard Rock Cafe.

My daughter and I celebrated her 13th birthday by seeing Phantom at the Majestic as her first Broadway show. No strangers to the stage, she has already performed in 10 musicals, and taken dance for 5 years, while I performed throughout my teen years. I have seen Phantom performed in Toronto previously, which I now know does not hold a candle to the NYC production. The Majestic is a perfect venue, while the set, costumes, and special effects were stunning. The talent of the cast, particularly Hugh Panero, whose performance I daresay rivaled Michael Crawford's was amazing. The power and control of his voice, and his pure tone was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. Sara Jean Ford interpreted the role of Christine beautifully. We left the theatre in awe, and 2 weeks later are still reeling from the performance. Thanks to the cast and crew for a fantastic show and unforgettable experience. But then, how can you go wrong with an Andrew Lloyd Webber show?! A must see!

Phantom- Phantastic ~ Theater Personnel- Obnoxious!, Aug 29, 2011

Okay, I know we were in NYC, but seriously! A floor attendant was barking orders at theater patrons like a bad teacher trying to control the classroom by screaming at the poor students. His performance, was unfortunatley, the one I remembered the most. Please reconsider your technics for audience control. As for the REAL performers, "BRAVO". It was "Phantastic".

Highlight of my NYC trip, Jun 09, 2012
reviewer: Paula from Virginia
WOW! WOW! WOW!! A recent girls' weekend to NYC and this was on our schedule for the first night. First I was pleasantly surprised by the intimacy of the Majestic Theatre. We were in Row H and our view was incredible. The way the acoustics sounded in there was amazing. As far as the performers......I was astounded!! The vocals of Sara Jean Ford (the character of Christine) gave me chills at times - no joke, the hairs on my arms stood on end when she carried the notes when the "Phantom" was instructing her to "sing" for him. And towards the end when Hugh Panaro (The Phantom) cried out that he loved her, I was in tears! They all did such an incredible job that I could have gone every night we were there. It's funny because I am watching The Phantom of the Opera on tv as I type this (with Gerald Butler) and there is no comparison obviously. The performance at the Majestic blows this Hollywood movie version out of the water. If you have a chance to go, I highly recommend it!

Phantom theater experience, Apr 07, 2013
reviewer: DM from Pennsylvania,USA
My wife and I had the pleasure of seeing and experiencing Phantom at the Majestic on Broadway on March 30th. The show was truly unforgettable and most rewarding. Unfortunately, the sales pitch, and advertisement that followed the standing ovation asking for donations supporting AIDS research with tempting posters, pins, and matching carry bags literally robbed us of the pleasure of leaving the theatre with the theatre experience of the production. I am truly saddened that the commercialism for causes has invaded Broadway in such a manner. My wife and I are supporters for many causes and appreciate the need for donations, but there must be a better way to get the money from viewers. We experienced the same "cause" when we saw Porgie and Bess, but the request for donations seemed to be less invasive. I will give donations to many causes, but on that day, we did not participate--I felt used and cheated, and disappointed.

Wonderful Musical, Jul 29, 2013
reviewer: Lynn Plain from kWaco, Texas,76712 USA
My family of 3 attended the July 2nd show in NYC. It was fantastic, seating did not matter since we could see & hear the music & singing very well. My son, who had had not wanted to go, sat on the edge of his seat the entire performance! I had told my hubsband I wanted to go & he said we wouldn't have the time. Then a few hours later he comes into the livingroom with the printed tickets in his hand. He loved it, too. We all have the music on our phones. I would love to have the 7-2-13 performance on my phone. We have told all of our friends and family how wonderful & magical.it was. If you do have a CD of the July 2nd,2013 performance I would like to get a copy, advise how much and I will be happy to buy it. I have listened to the different versions of it, & like the July 2nd performance more. Thank you for having such a wonderful show.

Dissapointing, Jan 10, 2014
reviewer: Jean from Chicago, Illinois
Although I knew the story, this was the first time I had seen the show. Although the music was good, the cast was not able to bring me emotionally into the plot. I saw no chemistry between the characters either. Maybe it was the acoustics of the Cadillac Theater, but i was not able to understand much of the lyrics. The comical relief parts fell short of their potential. The stage and costumes were amazing, but not good enough for me to recommend this show to anyone. I had hoped this would be a highlight of my daughter's winter break, but it fell very short.

Matinee performance, 1/11/2014 sitting in Row F Seat 18 it’s rightmost near front of the theatre, Aisle 1. Good seating; most of the action takes place at stage right. Yet, I was unable to see movement at stage right Theatre Populaire. I couldn’t see Raul I heard him. The Ford Cadillac stage is too small to accommodate this play. Scaled down scenes, less numbers of actors on stage accommodating small limited space. No spectacle, grandeur of stage, props, lighting, etc. Stage blocking cast two characters directly in my line of sight to middle stage so I didn’t see the Phantom’s entrance to or his costume at the Masquerade ball binoculars did not help… Changes made to the story didn’t enhance or expand on it they only detracted from it & the atmosphere. Maybe my problem is I am spoiled by viewing the Royal Albert Hall’s version of the play; same director, however RAH’S version is well above par in every aspect to the current version. The acting could have been better; many times, it lacked fire, intensity, joviality, horror/comedy as displayed in other versions. Phantom of the Opera 2013/14 is not a play for anyone who has seen it at another time, place, and/or in another venue.

May 8 2014- Just got home from seeing the Phantom of the opera in Cincinnati , It was a very good show but very different than the past shows I have seen of Broadway's Phantom. Not sure if I liked it as well. It was a good production no doubt. Singing was good but I have been to many performances and they have been phenomenal so I was a bit let down by this show. It was a great show but I have seen better broadway productions of the phantom of the opera so it was a bit disappointing to me maybe because I've seen other phantom shows that were better than tonight's . I did love the piano and fire scene that was different and I liked it I liked the flames on stage too that was cool! I would recommend seeing it though, it was a good show but I have seen better shows and so was a bit let down. The set was good but very different than any other show I've seen. The costumes were good but again better in past productions.

Norm Lewis, the new Phantom, is a break with tradition, Jul 10, 2014
reviewer: Bob Johnston from Knoxville, Tn.
I just saw on 7/5/14 the Phantom of the Opera for the 11th time at the Majestic Thetrea on Broadway. The new Phantom, Norm Lewis, is an African-American, and this is a major break with tradition for Phantom of the Opera. Needless to say, I am a huge fan of Phantom of the Opera and to me the Phantom is not African-American. He has always been played on Broadway by a white person and this is a major change. After seeing Phantom so many times, to me the Phantom of the Opera is all about tradition. I expect to see certain body types and hair colors and styles the same in the selected characters. To change it this dramatically took away from my enjoyment and changed my expectations of the play. I do not consider myself racist and I do not view this along racist lines. Mr Lewis's performance was very good and his voice worked as the Phantom. The new lady playing Christine Daae was excellent. As much as I love seeing Phantom on Braodway, I will not be back until the lead actor is changed.

I have always loved the music to Phantom, and I had seen the movie a billion times, so it wasn't till my 18th birthday when i got to go see it on Broadway with 3rd Row Seats. Now you don't have to see Phantom from the orchestra seating to love it. Not only were the performers excellent, but the orchestra, and the costumes were incredible. Overall, I would highly reccommend this play to anyone at any age. It was so beautiful, and 2 days later I am still in awe.

The performers are wonderful and full of energy! The costumes are so amazing and full of color. I have sat 3 rows from the orchestra, and have sat up on the 3rd level. The sound is so incredible. If you ever saw the movie, you will love the show. Young children may be scared of the Phantom. Take caution when bringing a child, who scares easily. I would go again in a heartbeat!

Only a teen when I saw it but, WOW!!!!, Nov 08, 2007
reviewer: Phantom Fan from Staten Island, NY
I saw the Phantom of the Opera back in 1992 when I was only 14 years old. It was the first time I ever saw a Broadway show and figured it was going to be boring, after all I was a teenager. Boy was I wrong! The play itself was great, but the music absolutely blew me away. I never thought an organ could make such incredible sounds. The composer should receive a medal for it. The songs themselves were also sensational. So when you put the great story, the incredible music, and those mind blowing organ sounds together, you equal up to one of the best nights you'll ever spend in the city. At least that's what I think. When I realized it's been 15 years since I first saw it, I decided I'd better see it again very soon. I'd be mortified if it came to an end and I didn't get a chance to go back, so before that happens, I'll be there. If you are looking to bring a special someone to see a Broadway play, I recommend The Phantom of the Opera hands down. You will not be sorry.

What a beautiful musical! Three of us saw Phantom on March 8th, 2008. We thoroughly enjoyed it. I have not seen others play The Phantom, but have heard some of their recordings. I must say that Howard McGillin's voice is the finest I've heard sing the part. His acting brought out all of the qualities needed to play a reclusive, slightly demented, yet endearing man like The Phantom. I was almost brought to tears by his rendition of Music of the Night. I am always thrilled by a musical which has beautiful costuming, and clever set changes. I was not disappointed this time. My only complaint would be that I need to see it a few more times to catch all that happens on the stage! Andrew Lloyd Webber - you rock!

reviewer: Harry Pfarrer from Burn after reading

I have seen this musical several times, and each time I enjoy it more. I live in Toronto, and had the great fortune to see John Cudia star in the role of the Phantom in the touring production. He takes your breath away with his depth to the character. It was thrilling to see that he was performing the role, again, when I had the chance to see it in New York on Broadway. If you want to see any theatre production in New York and you're not so sure about theatre, make SURE you see Phantom! You will NOT regret it!

The group was in awe of such a magical performance. The seating was wonderful. I didn't think there was a bad seat in the house. I would definitely take my mother and anyone else to the musical. There is a great pizza type restaurant across the street that used to be a church of somesort. Phantom was phenomenal!

Phantom of the Opera Review, Jun 22, 2009
reviewer: Taylor from Toledo, OH USA
My first time in New York City and I topped it off with Phantom of the Opera. It was really well planned out and really well done. Im in theatre myself and I really like the experience up on the stage acting. Before I went to see it on Broadway I watched the movie many times in the Band room at my high school. I would have to say its a lot different on stage than in the movie. I would have to say that Phantom of the Opera on broadway is much better

I am 39 years old and have always wanted to see Phantom on Broadway. My dream came true on Oct 15th 2010. I attended with one of my girlfriends and we had wonderful seats in the front mezzanine. The view was so perfect, I felt the play was performed just for me. The music and actors were phenomenal. By the end of the play I was almost moved to tears. Dream come true!

Phantom lives on, Oct 08, 2009
reviewer: Anonymous from Anytown, AT 55555
I finally got to see Phantom of the Opera live on Broadway on my birthday and it was by far the best part of my day. The actors were great, especially Jennifer Hope Wills. Her singing gave me goosebumps. And John Cudia as the Phantom was very powerful and brought me to tears a few times throughout the show. The friend who took me has seen the show a dozen times and she said this was the best performance she'd seen yet. In addition to the great cast, the orchestra was wonderful and the sets were absolutely beautiful.

A True Feat of Broadway, Dec 25, 2009
reviewer: Michael from West Chester, PA
Wow. Nothing I say can ever make up for the show. It is AMAZING! If you're a Broadway fan you HAVE to see it. I saw it twice, once in Philly in 2006 (As my fisrt show) then this past October (2009) in NYC with school. The sets, effects, costumes, story, music...everything is the best. I look back on it and I get chills when I think of the Overture and the Boat Scene. It's great for the family. The only scary part is 2 seconds long. Also, near the theatre is The Hard Rock Cafe (which is where we ate with school) SEE IT!

After the performance, everyone in the group was speecheless. Everything was...to say the least, incredible. Everything from the singing, dancing and acting was flawless. You could tell all the actors and actresses really had a deep personal connection with all of their roles. Anyone reading this I would reccomend and suggest this beautiful musical 100% Thank you, Jennifer Hope Willis, and John Cudia, for making yesterday MAGICAL. :)

Wonderful first musical!, May 01, 2010
reviewer: Anonymous from New England, USA
This was my first time seeing a broadway musical and my parents took me to see Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theater. It was such a breathtaking experience! The singers were excellent and operatic. You couldn't ask for better melodies, because the music is haunting and beautiful. I still have many of the songs stuck in my head from seeing the musical. I saw this on a friday night at 8pm and Paul A. Schaeffer played the phantom, not John Cudia. Nonetheless, he did a fabulous job and I was thoroughly impressed with the entire musical. You will not regret seeing this show!

My wife and I attended Phantom for my 1st ever show and I have to say both the show and the theatre/its staff were amazing. We missed the 2pm showing because of a snarl at the Lincoln Tunnel (2 hours to go 7 miles)and they graciously allowed us to attend the 8pm show and our seats were actually better.

My husband and I saw Phantom in May and I have to say I was completley blown away by the performance. The actors were amazing and the singing was first class. My only gripe was the guy sat behind me eating sweets all the way through! Please ban crisps and sweets!!! I would highly recommend going to see it if you are in New York. Our seats were great as well, M10 and M12, great unobstructed views. Totally made my trip

"The Phantom of the Opera" was the very first play I had ever seen,(I'm only 14, and it was for a school trip to NYC) but wow I was truely AMAZED! John and Jennifer's voices' were beautiful and blended together so perfectly!I went home and watched the movie, and couldn't help but wish it was them instead! I believe that the play was better than the movie..I am still blown away at the performance! Now I wish I could go and see 'Love Never Dies', and thanks to John and Jennifer's performance, I am now a 'Phantom' fan!

I have seen Phantom of the Opera before and loved it. I was disappointed in this one. The guy that played Raoul did not have the voice for the part. I would like to hope he was sick! His name is Ryan Silverman. I would try to go again if he was not in the show. The rest of the show was fantastic and Hugh Panaro as the Phantom.... Wow what a voice! He is worth going to hear! Oh and a great restaurant is The Brazil Grill. Their sizzling steak is a must!

I went to see the show on its anniversary in October. The seats were great even though there was a person sitting in front of me who blocked part of my view due to height. I enjoyed the show and recommend it to all Phans. I recommend the seat I had on the first miranda house right. There were no obstructions of view during the performance unlike some people who I have heard could not see the chandelier or the Phantom when he is cutting it down. Great performance and music. I have to say that if you have trouble with stairs it may not be an easy task climbing them. Overal, beautiful theater and spectacular performance.

reviewer: Mrs Charlotte Rixon from England
Myself and my husband attended Phanton at the Majestic NY November 2010. The performance was simply stunning. The whole evening could not have been performed better in my opinion. The effects amazing, the drama enveloping the orchestra faultless and the performances simply stunning. I do not mind confessing i was so drawn in to the utter beauty of the performance that i shed a tear or two. That these astonishing actors, actresses and musicians continue to do this show 6 days out of 7 and stil perform to every audience as if their lives depended on it is beyond my capacity to understand. This completed our Thanksgiving trip from England to NY. I cannot rate this highly enough.

When I first heard of this show, I didn't think too much of it. I went because the person I was going with had a free ticket & wanted me to go with her. Once I heard the music, I was immediately hooked onto the performance. The songs the cast sung were very powerful & even in the top row, the audience was moved by it. The story to it all was a romantic-horror show, but none-the-less, an amazing performance. I first saw this when I was 15 and Im 20 now. The show, the songs, everything about the performance will stay with you forever. I know it will for me.

Dont miss this show! Went on 6-12-12, Jun 18, 2012
reviewer: Stephen from Minneapolis
Great show! We sat in H2,4,6,8. Thoughts:premium seats are worth the $$$. If u sit on the floor level n row M or higher, you probably wont c the phantom up on the roof. If you have heart issues, dont sit dead center in front of the orchestra, because the chandelier will come close to your head as it crashes to the stage (very cool effect!) If you are on the floor, get seats in the center. Outside seats do have obstructed views. Also the left side of the stage seems to have more "action" then the right side. Get seats in center left. Temperature in theater was great, nice and cool! Having read prior reviews I agree with others: the staff was rude at times. There is outside noise from the street to the east exit doors behind row H. Bathroom lines are long and many people miss the start of the 2nd half (they do let you back in) some noise from candy wrappers but most of the audience was quiet at the important times. I am 6'2 & I am glad I had the aisle seat! Great show! Dont miss it!

They serve snacks! Great, right?, Nov 20, 2012
reviewer: Anonymous from New York, New York
Needless to say that the musical was incredible, even the second time, but what I really wanted to say is why is it necessary to sell snacks to the audience? And dear Audience, even if you are offered to buy one, doesn't mean you are obligated to do so. It was very said to see something so wonderful turn into a football stadium. Imagine, someone's once in a lifetime experience was accompanied by crackling noises of Twizzlers and M&M's wrappers... During the last part of the show I had tears standing in my eyes, while some gentlemen next to me was munching on chips, slowly reaching into the bag, apparently trying to make less noise but only prolonged it...

reviewer: Anonymous from New York, New York
Attended a matinee of the performance to a nearly sold out crowd. It was wonderful. The singing, cast, props, orchestra, and scenery was excellent. There was even a bit of comedy thrown in. The only faults were: I believe one of the cast missed a note and there was a slight prop problem where the mist didn't cover the back of the boat revealing the wheels and woodwork. But everything else was wonderful. Would have bought a ticket to the evening performance if I had the money. If you haven't seen phantom of the opera or are a fan of it and want to see it again, I would highly recommend this production.

We went to see "The Phantom of the Opera" on Monday as an early Birthday Present for me. It was awesome. Keep up the good work. It was so cool when the Chandelier crashed. Please be careful during the stunts. If things don't work out for Sierra Boggess in "Prince of Broadway" please give her a permanent contract in "The Phantom of the Opera" so that she can continue to play Christine. We'll be back soon, but we don't know when. Happy Birthday Phantom. May the music of the night go on forever. Please keep "Phantom" on Broadway forever.

Phantom Disappointment at the Majestic, Feb 07, 2013
reviewer: mari golt from sacramento, Ca.
performance was MONDAY, 2/5 AT 8:00 This was our 3rd time seeing TPOTO but 1st in NYC. Very disappointed in the actors who played the phantom and Christine"s boyfriend. The phantom sang off key....often at the beginning of a song it was very difficult to hear him. He didn't caress Christine during the seductive scenes. Rouelle was simply clumsy on stage and was not convincing at all. He often appeared confused, not knowing quite how to position himself on the stage. There was no natural chemistry between he and Christine and this came across during the performance. Sorry.....we just didn't feel this was worth the money.

We were in New York for 4 days and my 16 yr old daughter and I were shopping our way thru the city. We came upon the Majestic Theatre 10 mins before the show started. We were blown away by the talent of the cast and that day will stay in my memory as 'our New York experience!' We are very grateful for the special price for our prime seats!

Poor performance, May 12, 2013
reviewer: Anonymous from New York, New York
I hate saying it but nothing stunning here. I am a huge fan of Phantom of the Opera and this performance significantly fell short of expectations. They used a significantly wet mix for the mics which wreaked of reverb rather than letting the hall do it naturally. They cut the Phantom's mic off one line early at one point. When the Phantom takes Christine to his dungeon of sorts the first time the two disappear below the stage and then immediately reappear above on a bridge of sorts - obviously doubles. The audio perspective clearly changed so either the performers were singing under the stage in a very closed-in space, or a recording was used that also had closed-in characteristics - either way I could tell something was wrong. To make things worse the doubles had some trouble synching up to the other actors/recording with their lips. Tons more wrong but not enough characters left. The Phantom was probably the only unquestionably good aspect about the show.

Thank you for having such a wonderful show.

reviewer: Anonymous from New York, New York
Theatre was beautiful, front door staff was friendly. Needed Handicap access but none, this was a problem. Thomas, one of the ushers was RUDE! He spoke to everyone like they were a child and as he put it "getting on his last nerve". He yelled as patrons reached to pick up a Playbill, "Put those back, PUT THOSE BACK!" " This is NOT a buffet you do not help yourself.". He was impatient with everyone. I suggest if he doesn't like working with the public he chose another profession! Our seats were on row two of the Mezzanine and right by the stairs, so we had no choice but to hear him rant on and on! Visiting from TX I will say most other New Yorkers were friendly an d hospitable but Thomas left a sour note in our head! Sorry Thomas but your need to be fired! As Good As It Gets, Mar 24, 2014
reviewer: Douglas B. Marshall from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
I originally saw this show on Broadway a few years ago and was deeply affected (and I am a stoic guy). But this show exceeded all expectations : not only was the production far more creative and colorful, there was a certain sense of humor at times. Also, the show seemed a little shorter and therefore tighter. However, by far and away, the transcendent performances of the "Beauty" and Phantom were stunning. The Phantom evoked the sense of pain/ angst we all feel at some point in our lives, made all the more poignant by the remarkable Beauty, who radiated the beautiful and necessary elements of innocence, yet more, a truly idyllic female with which to contrast the Phantom's fate. And of course their voices were magnificent, full of energy and emotions. A must experience.

This production of Phantom is the best of the 4 productions we have seen including NY. What set it apart?? The creative, amazing set designs, the clear, strong voices and acting with intent, the costume detail and the beautiful lovingly presented music "of the night" by the orchestra...this was a phenomenol experience for us and the totality of it was exceptionally moving. We so greatly appreciate the quality of acting and marvel at how the actors can do such an intense, whole-hearted job night after night. We thank everyone involved for a wonderful experience which will resonate in us for a very long time. Bravo!!!

The singing was good but not mind blowing I have seen and heard better.

Very Disapointing, May 10, 2014
reviewer: John from Cincinnati, Ohio
Having seen Phantom of the Opera on multiple occasions in different cities, I have to say that last evenings performance left me wanting. There was a distinct lack of depth or emotion in the singing and the stage design minimized all the grandeur of the original. For most first time theater goers this may have been a pleasant enough experience however, if you've seen a previous production of PTO I would skip this particular endeavor. They changed the lyrics of several songs, what were they thinking?

Bring back the original, Jun 22, 2014
reviewer: Sad in Pulaski :( from Appleton, Wisconsin
So sorry for the negative review, but the tickets are an investment and I do not feel I spent my time wisely. This should have been advertised better about the new version. This is my favorite play and I have been boasting about this to my friend for years. I was so excited when it was playing in Appleton that we made it a girl’s weekend. I was so taken back with a totally different beginning. My friend stated by the second half that she was having a hard time following it. I said, “I can believe it, if I didn’t know the story, I would be lost too.” It felt like a high school music class rendition. I did not have any emotional response other than waiting for SOMETHING to spark that familiar resounding orchestra and voice that used to take my breath away. I don’t blame the actors who work so hard to put together a version of who’s ever vision this was. If this is a pilot, I vote NO! Bring back the passion!

Have seen Phantom every time it came to Dallas. Saw Crawford in LA. Seen Phantom all over the US.I HATED THIS PRODUCTION!. Has the director never seen Phantom? Do the actors not know the words? We do damnit and we know each inflection on every word. They hit 25% of them correctly. NO EMOTION! For God's sake this is a love story. NO boat on the lake , no rising chandeliers. They were 5 feet apart when Phantom says, "turn your head away..". He wasn't close to her the entire time. If you want to see Vinnie Barbarino play Phantom in high school, this is the play for you. There are so many key things changed or removed from this play, it's not worth going to see if you have ANY memories of a real Phantom performance. The orchestra was superb. Missed only one trumpet note. The sound quality was worse than a high school musical. Phantom's opening number in his lair is pathetic. If I came home and found my wife in bed with another man, I'd still be less pissed than I am now.

Rude staff, Nov 04, 2013
reviewer: DLC from New York, New York
Enjoyed the show. However, the staff from the front window to the ushers were rude and abrupt. Would not recommend attending a show at the Majestic Theater in New York. Very disappointed.

Too perfect., Dec 16, 2013
reviewer: Alexis from Minneapolis, Minnesota
It was absolutely fantastic! I spent most of the play fangirling in my seat. :) (Which is really hard for me to say... My expectations are so high, and this show met them perfectly!) I loved it. Would see it again in a heart-beat, wish I could, because I won't stop raving about this for at least another week.

All in all, AMAZING!, Feb 04, 2014
reviewer: Sarah Francmer from Chicago, Illinois
First off, I just have to say that Cooper Grodin (Phantom) has the voice that will warm the cold off of your frostbitten cheeks and melt your heart into a puddle of pure satisfaction. That man can sing! The rest of the cast did not fall short. Julia Udine (Christine) is very talented and likable. The choreography was impressive, the singing was phenomenal, (although a bit enigmatic at some parts), and the set was unbelievable. The small changes made to the plot are refreshing and entertaining. However, I did not feel a strong emotional bond between the Phantom and Christine, and between Christine and Raul. (Ben Jacoby). I didn't feel as if Raul and Christine passionately loved each other, or that Christine thought of the Phantom as anything else but a creep. Also, for a Phantom newbie, like my fiancé, some parts were confusing. I had to explain during intermission. Overall, a fantastic play! My sister went with her middle school choir, she loved it! I Recommend this for your family!

The 5th time I've seen the Phantom and I was not disappointed. This production although different was still outstanding . The cast was terrific and I did not want to see the performance end! Loved every minute of it!

Bravo! Bravo! All of the actors, the voices, the sets, the production - all fabulously done - want to go and see it again!! Equal goosebumps when I saw it with Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford in 1986.

This show was AMAZING. It was the first time I saw it live and I would see it again and again. It is my dream to be in the pit for a musical like that! I hope I get the chance to do that some day.

Where's the grandeur?, May 09, 2014
reviewer: Michele from Cincinnati, Ohio
Attended the Phantom last night with my four children, ranging from 12 to 25. It was their first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. I, however, was sadly disappointed. Where was all the pizzazz? Hate the new set. From the moment the chandelier was revealed, I knew the grandeur was gone. The simple up and down motion of the chandelier is far less dramatic than it rising from and falling to the stage. The phantom lacked any huge presence and seemed like just some guy. Voices were decent but difficult to make out the lyrics if you didn't know them. Masquerade was the saddest part of all. No staircase, no flamboyant costume. And what happened to the zillions of candles when the phantom is taking Christine on his boat? That was supposed to be an iconic scene but felt so watered down it made no impact. Where was the scene with Christine in a bridal gown? Just cut that? The phantom's disappearance at the end was also anticlimactic. For a $700 night out,I don't feel we got our money's worth. Sa

Lots of sound issues and musical timing, May 13, 2014
reviewer: Claudia from Cincinnati, Ohio
I saw the show in Columbus, OH and it was great. Grodin is a superb Phantom, and the rest of the cast was excellent. When they came to Cincinnati (my town), I went to see it again. The performance was good - but lots of parts were sung rather fast, almost like they had better places to be. It left much to be desired. I still loved the show overall. So I took my mom for Mother's day sat. eve. She hadn't seen it since Michael Crawford played the Phantom. When we arrived, the understudy took over for the Phantom for the last week it was in town. A bit disappointing, I had talked up Grodin to her, and now felt a little stupid. BUT - When Snyder went to sing his first lines as the Phantom - nothing came out. His mic was dead!! You couldn't hear him again til they went downstairs, and when he tells Christine to "SING" he just walked off stage. Probably to fix the mic before MOTN. Smart move. But his performance was affected. After Int. he was amazing! But sound problems continued. :(

Saw the new production in Boston today. Christine ( Grace Morgan?) was terrific! Wonderful voice and range. With the mechanics and the scenes involved, how do they do this time after time?

Second entry, Jun 30, 2014
reviewer: Bill from Boston, Massachusetts
Reading this negative reviews. People have to understand that is is a brother love 's traveling show and the Broadway spectacular cannot be repeated by a company that moves every two or three weeks. The Majestic Theater has an under structure that is permanent,, 27 years there. These people are on the move constantly and offer you their best. Try to appreciate it.

Best Day Ever!, Jul 01, 2014
reviewer: Anonymous from Boston, Massachusetts
I took a bus from Vermont to Boston to see Phantom this past weekend. I have the CD and DVD and had seen the 25th anniversary production from London several times but it was my first time at a live production of it. To me it was the best show ever. I felt chills during some of the songs in the first act and tears were flowing during "Music of the Night." During the second act I sipped my champagne and decided it was my best day ever.

Thrilling Production!, Aug 17, 2014
reviewer: Rebecca E. from Dallas, Texas
I took my 87 year old mother to see this show (my second time, her first time) and we were both thrilled! A wonderful production. My mother was awe-struck and we both promised to see it again when it comes back in 2016.

less than the original, Jul 17, 2014
reviewer: Anonymous from Boston, Massachusetts
The new version lacked the splendor of the original. Also, the orchestra drowned out the dialogue and the singing. Enjoyed the night out, but was a little disappointed with this version. Sorry to say it was not as I remembered the past few times I attended this play in other years..

Hit & Miss, Aug 14, 2014
reviewer: William T. from Dallas, Texas
I've only seen one other production of this show, many years ago, & all I recall was that it was a bit of an anti-climax. I admit to having been spoiled by the original cast recording, and Michael Crawford 's Phantom is a hard act to follow. This was a decent enough production, but there were some changes that I didn't care for. The "Masquerade" sequence had no grand staircase, no exotic masqueraders and the Phantom's "Red Death" was not represented in the traditional way. Cooper Grodin's Phantom left me somewhat cold. He was trying too hard to be dark & menacing, & was lacking as a "sympathetic" Phantom, which is essential to the character. Some of his gestures were reminiscent of John Barrymore, amusingly enough. The singing from most of the principals sounded too "American"...Too many harsh "R's" and such. There were subtle-but-noticeable changes in libretto & stage direction which were disappointing to anyone who knows the show well. Overall, very good, but not great.

we almost lost ourselves in it, but not entirely, Jul 21, 2014
reviewer: Daryl amd Monique from Boston, Massachusetts
We thought everything about the show, characters, opera house, amd singing were spot.on except a few minor things wth far reaching consequences. The phantom was trying to hard to make the phantoms part his own - constantly changing or ad libbing, very little stuck to the original stuff, i hated this because the lack of seeing stage hands allowed us to lose ourselves in the show, but him doing this kept jolting us back to reality. Super annoying! Sometimes things felt rushed, and there was not even close to the amount of emotion you should have been.able to expect from such a fantastic show and group of actors, actresses and singers. But other than these things, the show was completely worthwhile and we both loved it

Disappointing, Jul 30, 2014
reviewer: Anonymous from Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Very disappointed. Could not see because everything was so dark, no definition of stage--everything was gray or black. Could not understand words because is was too loud. It was a gift to myself and my sisters from my husband, how do I tell him it wasn't the greatest after he spent so much money. On the other hand liked the costume and scenery changes. Some almost seemed magical.

A wall of noise, Aug 11, 2014
reviewer: John from Dallas, Texas
Went to see this show on August 7th at the Winspear. Sat in the second row of the Grand Tier. Sound was horrible. Couldn't make out what was being said or sung and neither could anyone else. Just a wall of noise coming to us in the cheap???? seats. The only people who knew what was going on were those who had seen the play before or the movie.
