 Fascinating concept, Feb 21, 2009 |

| This play will have you thinking long after you leave the theatre. Look for the relationships between Dr. Brandt (Fonda) and Beethoven, their personalities, their personal lives, what is most important in each life. The cast is excellent and Fonda is a trouper....never hogging scenes or trying to upstage another actor...a true ensemble player, just fine acting there. Give a good actress a good role and she knows what to do with it! Please go to see this play and see if you aren't stimulated mentally and moved emotionally as I was. Hooray for Moises Kaufman and for Jane Fonda & company! __________________ |

| This could be a really outstanding play, if the First Act could be fixed. 1) Fonda's treatment of her daughter parallels B's treatment of B's servant. Fonda's rejection should be expressed with humorous put-down and put-offs. We can respect, even love, a person who rejects medical and family advice to stop what they feel is jmportant, but Fonda's lines are simply repetetive without amusing. 2) B. is great. Why not bring him on in Act One. Perhaps fuming over the bad count of his coffee beans: allegedly he counted out exactly 51 or 52. 3) Fonda wishes her daughter had a passion (as she does). Her daughter feels none, would rather love and be loved simply --perhaps she should express this and F. can reply with something like " Wouldn't a dog do?". In the end daughter can say her mother was wrong. She did have a passion. It was caring for her mother. The German museum meetings also need more humor. Do, do fix it!
