Memphis, the new musical that swept the board at this year's Tony Awards winning Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Orchestration from its 8 nominations. Based on a story inspired by the legendary DJ Dewey Phillips, the musical explores what happens when a 1950's Memphis DJ with white listeners decides to play African-American music. Now showing at the Shubert Theater.
American Idiot, the new musical from Green Day is on Broadway at the St James Theater. The show features every track from the album, plus several new tunes from Green Day’s newest release, 21st Century Breakdown. With an on-stage band and a cast of 19, American Idiot will take you on an exhilarating journey borne along by Green Day’s electrifying songs.
The Addams Family They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky - and they're coming to Broadway. A dream cast including Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth takes on the quirky characters in a new and original Addams Family tale at the Lunt Fontanne Theater.
Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes star in Promises - Promises, a revival of the Burt Bacharach, Hal David, Neil Simon musial based on the Billy Wilder film, The Apartment. Now at the Broadway Theater.
2010 TONY AWARD WINNERS
At last the waiting is over, and after all the excitement of the most glamorous night on Broadway, best of the Broadway season were honored at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, 14 June. A host of A-list actors turned out for the stage equivalent of the Oscars. The 2010 Tony Awards have officially been announced.
Red, John Logan's portrait of abstract-expressionist artist Mark Rothko, and Memphis, the story of showbiz aspirations and forbidden love in the Civil Rights era, were named Best Play and Best Musical, respectively.
The Tony for Best Revival of a Play went to the late August Wilson's drama Fences starring Denzel Washington (Tony for Best Actor Tony) and Viola Davis (Tony for Best Actress in a Play).
Best Revival of a Musical went to La Cage aux Folles starring Douglas Hodge (Tony for Best Actor in a Musical) and Kelsey Grammer.
