One of the city's most unique live experiences, Stomp has been thrilling New York audiences for over twenty years. This ear & eye-popping show consists of a group of eight incredibly talented performers, who create intricate rhythms from everyday household objects, from garbage can lids and zippo lighters, to buckets and hammers. For their third presentation of the Here/Now festival, New York City Ballet pay tribute to their Resident choreographer, one of the company's youngest ever, the inimitable Justin Peck. In this, the first full Peck program by company, expect to be dazzled by some of his best-known works, including the geometric In Creases, the bold New Blood, Sufjan Stevens scored Everywhere We Go alongside a brand new piece, his first ever for just two dancers. An ambitious reworking by star choreographer Alexei Ratmansky, A Grand Divertissement is originally based on the fairytale ballet from Edouard Lalo in the 19th century. Split up from the narrative story form, the work is divided into separate witty and animated vignettes, designed for a large company and its seven main dancers. Taking apart what Ratmansky described as the "Most cliched of ballets" and giving it a playful spin brings a more uplifting arc to proceedings, involving a young man searching for his love, Namouna. This pure celebration of New York City Ballet's own wunderkind Christopher Wheeldon sees the company take on three of his best-known works, nicely climaxing with American Rhapsody, his newest piece set to the romantic music of Gershwin. More info
